*All benefits are available to full and part-time associates working at least 25 hours per week. Associates working at least 20 hours are eligible for all benefits except medical, dental, and vision.  

Description

 

SCHEDULE (not to exceed 40 hours per week): Monday – Thursday, 8a – 5p; Friday 8a – 6p; once a week 10a - 7p; at least once a month 11a - 8p; one or two Saturdays a month, 9a – 1p

Objective:

The Lending Specialist is primarily responsible for originating loans, completing loan applications, following up with Members to ensure approved loans close, closing loans and identifying additional sales opportunities.  The Lending Specialist will also provide sales training for branch associates and answer inbound Member calls. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Completes loan applications generated in-person or over the telephone. 

Submits loan applications to the underwriter immediately upon completion. 

Calls Members back with notification of a credit decision. 

Makes suggestions on all loans forwarded to the underwriter; makes case for why loan should or should not be made. 

Actively identifies additional sales opportunities and works with other Associates to secure the sales. 

Makes outbound calls as needed and provides marketing material to originate business, follow up on pending applications and resolve Member issues. 

Meets standards for credit life / credit disability sales. 

Accurately maintains any needed reports / logs. 

Coordinates closings and prepares loans for closing. 

Provides input to Member Services Representatives regarding financial counseling to Members as needed. 

Develops a working knowledge of Credit Union’s systems. 

Performs other duties as required by Credit Union management. 

Develops an understanding of Credit Union history, philosophy, organization, policies and operational procedures. 

On a self-directed basis, continues to improve individual level of competency through training and certification on established educational programs. 

Must be able to relate to other people beyond giving and receiving instructions: (a) can get along with coworkers or peers without exhibiting behavioral extremes; (b) perform work activities requiring negotiating, instructing, supervising, persuading or speaking with others; and (c) respond appropriately to criticism from a supervisor.

 

Position Requirements

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent education and experience

Minimum two years of consumer lending experience

Knowledge of lending products / regulations

Ability to make sound decisions

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Must value a high degree of accuracy

Professional demeanor

Effective communication skills

Basic PC skills (Windows)

Basic math skills

Assertive problem solving skills

Ability to work well independently, or as part of a team 

Desired Qualification:

Associate’s degree in Finance, Business or related field, or relevant experience 

Physical Activities and Requirements of This Position:

Talking: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly. 

Average Hearing: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information. 

Repetitive Motion: Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. 

Average Visual Abilities: Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery. 

Physical Strength: Sedentary work; sitting most of the time.  Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.
