*All benefits are available to full and part-time associates working at least 25 hours per week. Associates working at least 20 hours are eligible for all benefits except medical, dental, and vision.  

Description

Objective:

The Operations Specialist is expected to provide account related support for the credit union, including government items that require compliance with various rules and regulations to ensure accuracy.  The Operations Specialist also provides project support to Operations/Card Services personnel and management.  Today’s business environment is one of much change and evolution.  To this end, it is expected of an Operations Specialist, either through execution or observation, to offer suggestions or ideas to continuously improve current processes.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assumes responsibility for processing mail payments:
  1. Processes mail and posts payments and/or deposits daily
  2. Sends out receipts or contacts Members if there are questions about posting payments or deposits
  3. Reviews large checks for deposit to Members’ accounts and places a hold where appropriate

 

  • Opens new Member accounts and creates initial and ongoing correspondence

 

  • Assumes responsibility for government related item processing and complying with rules and regulations

 

  • Processes Deposit on Demand checks for collection and scanning
  • Scanning of all documents within the credit union into the storage database
  • Administration of HSAs, IRAs, and deceased accounts
  • Administration of court ordered child support payments, notices, and garnishments

 

  • Completes exception reporting

 

  • Assists Card Services area with normal duties as time permits
  • Assists Operations/Card Services area with departmental projects as time permits
  • Develops an understanding of Credit Union history, philosophy, organization, policies and operational procedures

 

  • Performs other duties as required by Credit Union management

 

  • On a self-directed basis, continues to improve individual level of competency through training and certification on established educational programs.

 

  • Must be able to relate to other people beyond giving and receiving instructions:
  1. Can get along with coworkers or peers without exhibiting behavioral extremes
  2. Perform work activities requiring negotiating, instructing, supervising, persuading or speaking with others
  3. Respond appropriately to criticism from a supervisor
 

Position Requirements

Required Qualifications:

High school graduate or equivalent

Strong organizational and analytical skills

Sense of priority and attention to detail

Must value a high degree of accuracy

Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

Professional demeanor

Prior experience in a customer service role

Collaborative in nature

Effective communication skills

Intermediate PC skills (Windows)

Proficient typing and keyboarding skills

Assertive problem solving skills

Ability to work well independently or as part of a team

Ability to work in a changing fast-paced environment

 

Desired Qualifications:

Undergraduate degree in operations, accounting, finance, or related education and experience

Three to five years of related experience

Advanced PC skills (Windows), specifically spreadsheet skills (Excel, Quattro Pro, Lotus 123)

Prior experience in a financial/banking institution

Familiarity with basic accounting procedures

Knowledge of card processing procedures and requirements


 

Physical Activities and Requirements of This Position:

Finger Dexterity:   Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.

Talking:                  Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.

Average Hearing:    Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.

Repetitive Motion:      Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Average Visual Abilities:      Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery.

Physical Strength:        Sedentary work; sitting most of the time.  Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.
