Consultant - Benefits Administration 


Reports To Director, Administration Consulting  

Supervise Project Managers (if applicable)  

Description

The Consultant is accountable for the Benefits Administration client relationship and ensuring high quality service delivery of ongoing or project work; manages the Benefits Administration relationship with the designated client contacts for an established book of business; coordinates and communicates with the outsourcing vendor and appropriate internal Ascende practices to ensure that Benefits Administration services are performed as agreed.; completes vendor searches, requests for proposal, and feasibility assessments for clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Interact with client frequently via face-to-face meetings, by telephone, and by e-mail
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and communications
  • Coordinate with all appropriate practices, Ascende leadership and Relationship Manager to ensure integration
  • Ensure service delivery is consistent with documented scope; serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for stakeholders
  • Provide technical review of administration documentation and services to ensure benefits and procedures are accurate
  • Collaborate on strategic and market initiatives to support accurate administration
  • Assist in the development of and monitor annual project plans and service guarantees
  • Assist in defining and developing benchmarks for administration of employee benefits and policies
  • Report on administration services annually (or more frequently as needed)
  • Adhere to change control process
  • Oversee coordination of ongoing projects and timelines for Benefits Administration clients
  • Oversee and facilitate annual enrollment and other special projects for Benefits Administration clients
  • Ensure system modifications are implemented and tested consistent with Ascende standards
  • Manage vendors to ensure all client deliverables are met according to client schedule
  • Coordinate and communicate with vendors and team members to ensure the appropriate information and processes are in place
  • Support Benefits Administration best practices and initiatives
  • Maintain and update client requirements documents, within Ascende and at vendors
  • Support all client work within or outside of team as directed by Director
  • Serve as back-up across Benefits Administration Client Teams, or other practices, as needed
  • Supervise, train, develop, and mentor direct reports
  • Maintain key documents and data in Documentum
  • Perform special projects as assigned
  • Document time in Tool Time as appropriate
 

Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent educational training or business experience
  • 1-3 years supervisory experience
  • 5-7 years benefits administration experience

  • In-depth knowledge of all benefit plan rules from an implementation and/or administrative perspective
  • Approach projects in a financially responsible and resourceful manner
  • Delegation skills
  • Knowledge of COBRA regulations and administration (if applicable)
     

Special Requirements:

  • Flexible to work outside normal working hours
  • Travel (as needed); overnight stay required
  • Client entertainment, i.e., sports events, rodeo, dinners, etc
