Consultant - HR & Benefits Administration 

Reports To Practice Leader, HR & Benefits Administration  
Supervise HR/Payroll Coordinator(s)  

Provide HR management consultancy and advisory services to clients, especially clients in start-up, spin-offs, mergers and acquisitions, and high-growth situations


  • Facilitate and lead HR organizational assessment and evaluation of programs, systems, and infrastructure leading to recommendations for organizational and business improvement
  • Assist clients in the development and implementation of benefit plans and HR programs and policies necessary for business execution
  • Lead the evaluation and implementation of external HR-related systems, including Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), payroll systems, benefits recordkeeping systems and other systems necessary for the management of  HR and/or payroll processes
  • Lead in the development, assessment, implementation, and ongoing vendor management of HR-related vendors selected for the client
  • Serve as the primary client  relationship manager within Ascende, providing project management of all Ascende lines of business
  • General cross-functional project management  around  mergers,  acquisitions,  spin-offs and  business  start-ups  in  establishing  HR  organizational capabilities and programs
  • Manage client HR implementation and project plans
  • Consult on change management and HR and organizational communications
  • Assess feasibility  of PEO, ASO, HRO and other outsourced arrangements for clients
  • Provide general HR compliance consulting including key regulations such as ERISA, IRS rules,  etc.
  • Document Time in Tool Time as appropriate
  • Maintain key documents and data in Documentum
  • Perform special projects as assigned
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Human Resources or related field
  • At least 7-12 years of experience in corporate HR, HR consulting, or related position preferably in multiple areas of the HR function
  • PHR/SPHR Certification is preferred

KSAs (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)

  • Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of the HR function – especially employee benefits (health and welfare and retirement plans), HR Systems, payroll systems, etc.
  • General knowledge of federal and state laws as they relate to human capital/human resources, including ERISA, IRS, etc.
  • Microsoft Office Suite experience
  • Able to effectively interface with internal and external customers
  • Able to handle confidential information with maximum discretion
  • Able to understand client business operations and how they relate to human resources
  • Able to work independently and on a team within a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrate good judgment while managing projects, multi-tasking, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines with a sense of urgency
  • Detail-oriented, organized, efficient, and proactive
  • Excellent interpersonal/presentation skills.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills
  • High level of accountability and flexibility and work in ambiguous projects with a high level of change and uncertainty
  • High level of self-confidence, professional grooming and demeanor, positive, self-starter and high degree of emotional stamina
  • Open and willing to receive and give constructive critique
  • Ability to present to clients and lead and facilitate meetings
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Adhere to Ascende QA policy

Special Requirements

  • Flexible to work outside normal working hours
  • Travel (as needed); overnight stay required
