Financial Service Advocate

CommuniCare Health Services is currently recruiting a Full Time Financial Service Advocate to assist residents, families, and responsible parties in coordinating all aspects of medical coverage and benefits. The Financial Service Advocate will also complete and/or assist in all duties and tasks necessary for timely and accurate submission of aplications. This position will service the residents of our Caring Communities in the Cleveland, OH region.

Responsibilities of the Financial Service Advocate include:

  • Gather financial data from the resident, family, and/or responsible party
  • Complete and submit applications to State Medicaid programs upon admission
  • Coordinate meeting times with facility designee when scheduling time with resident and/or resident's family
  • Maintain proper documentation to support efforts with all applications submitted
  • Build working relationship with local agency which produces the Level of Care/Pasarr Screen and County Department of Job and Family Services
  • Submit request for initial Level of Care to local State Agency office
  • Manage the process when further review is requested by the local agency due to diagnosis of MRDD or Mental Illness
  • Attend facility Medicaid Pending meetings
  • Develop and maintain a good working relationship with the facility teams including, but not limited to, Business Office Manager, Director of Nursing, and Director of Social Services
  • Maintain confidentiality of all resident/family information at all times

While the Financial Service Advocate is a position that assists the business office, the ideal candidate must have a background in the Social Services Field. We are looking for 3 - 5 years of Social Work experience and experience working with Medicaid in a Long Term Care setting. The position requires a thorough knowledge and understanding of Long Term Care reimbursement and the Medicaid and Medicare programs. We are seeking a creative, assertive individual with excellent communication skills. Communication with the resident, family, facility staff, and Medicaid offices is vital to the success of the position. The Financial Service Advocate must remain abreast of all regulatory changes in the State Medicaid program, and must be willing visit Medicaid Offices.

Position Requirements
  • Minimum of a 2 year degree in Social Work or related field
  • Must have 3 - 5 years experience in Social Services and Medicaid in a long term care setting
  • Thorough knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and Private Insurance programs, and the laws, regulations and guidelines that pertain to long term care reimbursement
  • Must be assertive and creative
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Must have the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
  • Must be able to deal tactfully with team members, other staff, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public
  • Basic computer literacy and skills
  • Must remain abreast of regulatory changes in the State Medicaid program
  • Must be willing to travel to facilities as assigned and visit Medicaid offices
