Under general supervision and according to departmental policies and procedures and within the individual plan of care performs the role of physical and emotional care given to clients with mental illness and/or developmental delays.  Is responsible to actively participate in safety management, milieu management, crisis intervention and prevention.  Provides a safe and secure environment for patients and staff in both individual and group settings. Collaborates in day-to-day planning/development of patient programming and implementation of patient programs,  Assists patients with personal care. This can include bathing, shaving, washing hands, styling hair, using the bathroom, dressing, etc.)  Documents all progress notes, medication administration, and any other relevant information, reporting any immediate concerns according to departmental policies and procedures. Responsible to monitor for and report to the RN any potential risk to patient safety that could lead to an adverse outcome. Completes reports and paperwork as needed.  This includes incident reports, infection control reports, shift reports, etc. Assists in the teaching of patient/family. This includes social skills, daily living skills, and behavioral and coping techniques. Responsible to role model the mission and values of the organization through appropriate social behavior and problem solving. Provides spiritual, emotional, social, mental, and physical support to patients. Is responsible to actively participate in safety management, milieu management, crisis intervention and prevention.  This also includes surveillance, assessment, de-escalation, implementation of restrictive measures, and emergency medical care.  Supports and demonstrates a customer friendly approach in accordance with performance improvement. Must maintain annual training and demonstrate competency in the areas of Safety, Infection Control, Patient Rights, and Corporate Compliance. Must complete annual TB skin test. Must maintain annual training and demonstrate competency in CPR, CPI, First Aid, Age Specific Care, Compassionate Care, Abuse and Neglect Mandatory Reporting, and Cultural Diversity.


Position Requirements

High School diploma or GED required; college experience preferred.

About the Organization Pine Rest is a nonprofit, free standing, behavioral health system founded in 1910 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This comprehensive behavioral health center, coupled with the Pine Rest network of 19 outpatient clinics and satellite offices in Michigan and Iowa, provide individualized and group therapy for people of all ages and all levels of need. Pine Rest clinicians offer therapeutic services in behavioral health across the continuum of care, and within a Christian worldview.

Pine Rest has a 200-bed inpatient hospital program with a 36-bed child and adolescent inpatient and a large partial hospital program for adolescents. Additionally, Pine Rest has many inpatient services for adults, including: a 28-bed psychiatric-medical unit in an acute care hospital, four 22-bed adult inpatient units each designed for a different level of acuity, a 22-bed co-occurring substance use disorder adult inpatient unit, a large adult partial hospital program, and a 26-bed older adult inpatient unit.

Other campus based services include a forensic psychiatry clinic, a psychological consultation testing center, an attention deficit disorders clinic, an autism spectrum disorders clinic, and a large neuromodulation clinic which provides TMS and ECT services.

The Pine Rest Community and Residential Services Division provides a wide array of services to the public sector including residential services to children with behavioral disorders, residential services to adults with developmental disabilities, and substance abuse residential services.

The medical staff includes over 70 psychiatrists and other MDs/DOs, more than 110 fully licensed psychologists, more than 191 licensed masters-level social workers, and 30 physician assistants and nurse practitioners.
