Mid Office Risk Analyst 


Position is responsible for various risk control activities in the Risk Control Group, supporting NRG and the Reliant Retail business segment.  It requires a combined expertise in the financial aspects needed to understand risk measurement of financial instruments, plus knowledge of the systems used to measure the risk of a complex portfolio.

  • Responsible for validation of Retail deal contract terms against internal Retail transaction systems
  • Identify and communicate all discrepancies concerning transaction confirmations to internal Sales, Retail Supply, and Risk groups.
  • Make recommendations for system/process enhancements to improve performance in the Risk Control area and test system changes.
  • Evaluate exception requests and risk-related contractual issues in negotiated C&I contracts.
  • Analyze new product and structure approvals for residential, business services, and C&I segments.
  • Monitor adherence to the retail risk policy, assist in investigation of any issues, and update any policy and/or product revisions.
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis related to risk issues in the residential, business services, and C&I segments.
  • Collaborate effectively with other Retail Risk teams, Retail Supply, Legal, IT, and Retail Operations teams to evaluate non-standard requests in a timely manner.
  • Leverage problem solving, data manipulation, and analytical skills to address specific business requests.
  • Interface with other internal departments in the resolution of retail business issues as required



Position Requirements

Education:  Bachelor’s degree is required. 

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.  Accounting, Business, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Math or Science is preferred
  • High degree of computer literacy. Experience with ZaiNet, Access, VBA, SQL, and Excel is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of financial and physical energy trading markets particularly ERCOT and Northeast Markets.
  • Ability to plan/manage multiple priorities and committed to meet demanding deadlines in a demanding environment and work overtime when required.  Works well in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and critical thinking skills. 
  • Adapts effectively to new and changing environments.
  • Proficient in effectively communicating to a wide range of audiences in both written and oral form.
  • Excels in quickly conceptualizing and assimilating data to make decisions and take appropriate action. 
  • Comfortably handles risk and uncertainty. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills. 
  • Works independently through the use of initiative and self-motivation.
