Marketing Manager, Promotional Planning

The marketing manager  is responsible for the over-arching development and management of promotional  marketing strategies and go-to-market plans for NRG or Reliant. He/she oversees a team of promotion/campaign managers and collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders. He/she must have a strong business acumen, strategic thinking and ability to see the big picture. This role works closely with several internal teams including marketing channels, creative services, sales, web, customer care, legal/regulatory and operations to ensure alignment; and frequently presents to senior leadership.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of promotional/campaign managers. Oversee the development, management and results of strategic, annual go-to-market promotional marketing plans for key corporate initiatives/products/services. Plans can include a mix of marketing activities like mass advertising, direct mail, digital, face-to-face, collateral, social, mobile and more.
  • Provide strategic leadership and identify marketing opportunities and action plans to meet business goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrate thorough understanding of the industry, business, competitors and brands, and act as an important resource for intelligence and direction. Be seen as a trusted, strategic and confident marketer.
  • Must think about consumer engagement and overall customer experience and is an advocate for the consumer.
  • Review and approve promotional marketing plans to ensure all are strategically sound and business and marketing objectives are being met. Make recommendations to fill any gaps in strategy. Challenge the status-quo and maximize cross-channel marketing integration.
  • Review and approve campaign messaging and creative (in conjunction with creative manager) before presented to senior team. Act as a brand ambassador and ensure brand consistency.
  • Work across the business to ensure alignment and ongoing support for marketing efforts. Continuously sell in ideas utilizing past results, case studies, consumer insights and more.
  • Passionately present and defend marketing decisions and brand direction. Possess the ability to say “no” when requests go against business objectives and/or brand direction.
  • Maintain promotional marketing calendar and coordinate marketing efforts across a calendar year.
  • Participate in regular brand strategy discussions.
  • Lead, coach and inspire a diverse team of people. Provide leadership/motivation and share/promote corporate initiatives and values with the group. Keeps staff up to date on and in tune with business objectives.
  • Develop, manage and monitor processes to ensure efficient, seamless integration and collaboration between team members.
  • Build relationships and strong rapport with various internal groups and executives.
Position Requirements

  • At least 5+ years of experience in marketing, strategic account planning, brand management or related field
  • Experience building and implementing successful strategic marketing plans
  • Experience with subscription-based industry (electricity, cable, internet, etc.) a plus
  • Experience managing/leading a team


  • Bachelors degree in marketing, advertising, communication or similar field of study required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities

Working Conditions:

  • Normal office environment
  • Some overtime required as special projects arise
  • Day travel and some overnight stays.
