Represent NRG’s interests in the ERCOT Region, particularly as it relates to commercial operations and retail operations.  Other duties include assisting in NRG activities before the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT), the Texas Reliability Entity (TRE) and NERC; develop and execute strategies to achieve market and regulatory policy that optimize NRG’s commercial strategy. 


  • Participate in ERCOT stakeholder process both directly and in coordination with appropriate staff participation to ensure that ERCOT rules and procedures create stable and effective markets that support the company’s short term and long term commercial interests.
  • Coordinate development of and advocacy for policy and issue positions at ERCOT and the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) with the Gulf Coast Region business, including asset management, commercial operations, plant operations, development, environmental, regulatory affairs and retail businesses.
  • Participate in the transmission planning stakeholder process to ensure that the rules and procedures support NRG’s short term and long term commercial interests.
  • Provide support, analyses, and strategy inputs to NRG business units to resolve commercial issues and develop and further business opportunities and success. 
  • Maintain strong professional relations with ERCOT staff, management, state regulatory personnel, and other key industry stakeholders active in ERCOT.
  • Build and participate in coalitions to influence outcomes at ERCOT and at the PUCT.
  • Monitor all needs for the company to intervene at PUCT in ERCOT related issues and provide guidance and substantive expertise for company pleadings and filings on such issues.
  • Assist with project and business development for NRG, including management of interconnection studies and approvals for development initiatives.
  • Participate in trade association efforts related to regulatory and commercial policy.
  • Monitor compliance requirements in the ERCOT tariff and coordinate with company staff to ensure these requirements are included in the company compliance standards and training.
  • Coordinate efforts with Regional businesses units, Power Marketing, Operations, Communications, General Counsel and other internal team members and through them keep NRG abreast of market and policy issues that affect the company.
  • May also lend expertise and bring best practices to participate on issues in other ISO/RTO regions from time to time as required.
  • Other duties as assigned including responsibility for identifying business opportunities and building relationships with external customers, potential partners, asset owners, transmission providers, etc. that would help the company expand and grow the business.
Position Requirements


  • Graduate degree in engineering, economics, law, or related field or equivalent experience, and ten or more years of experience in ISO/RTO markets.  High level of expertise in ERCOT market strongly preferred with additional knowledge or experience in other regions desired.
  • Proven leadership, coalition building and advocacy skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex issues to audiences at all levels both within and external to the company.
  • Ability to identify issues of importance to the company, take initiative to develop strategies and recommendations and obtain consensus and review within a matrix organizational environment. 
  • Ability to travel throughout the region and to other NRG locations.
  • Prior experience in regulatory and market environments, with an emphasis on ERCOT.
  • Ability to prioritize job requirements in a high pressure, multi-task environment
