Senior Manager, Fuels Accounting 



  • Responsible for overall accounting, reporting and analysis for coal, oil, gas, emissions and related portfolios.
  • Oversee and assist accounting functions necessary to achieve an accurate and timely general ledger month-end close.  Activities will include review of journal entries and reconciliations, analysis of balance sheet and income statement accounts, and general accounting support.
  • Oversee and coordinate monthly accounting close process for Fuels Accounting and address any challenges encountered in receiving or providing data.
  • Review and analyze financial results and provide explanations of variances and any adjustments.
  • Work closely with Commercial Operations, Plant Operations, Environmental, and Regional Accounting teams to understand various strategies, operational issues, etc. and related accounting implications and provide accounting support.
  • Oversee preparation of monthly/quarterly/annual financial supporting schedules in accordance with GAAP and SEC regulations.
  • Provide assistance with the budget and forecasting process in accordance with the guidelines established by the Financial Planning and Analysis Department.
  • Research and resolve technical accounting issues, including writing and reviewing memos where appropriate.Provide leadership and supervision to accounting staff.  Actively coach and develop team members by assessing strengths and developmental needs and providing timely and specific feedback.
  • Develop and maintain accounting, measurement and control activities.
  • Monitor the internal control environment and ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley Sec. 404 legislation as it relates to the work processes for Fuels Accounting.
  • Additional responsibilities will include assistance with special projects including due diligence and regulatory requests.
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting with 10+  years of experience in general financial accounting and reporting. CPA and Prior Big 4 experience is preferred.
  • Mimimum of 5 years of supervisory experience, including conducting performance reviews.
  • Excellent communication skills; including strong verbal and written skills, and the ability to effectively listen. 
  • Ability to resolve complex accounting issues with multiple company structure and consolidation.
  • Prior energy industry experience is preferred.
  • Experience with SAP preferred.
  • Experience with Zainet/Aligne and Fuelworx a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
