Packaging Operator - Alsip 



Packages products and materials for storage or shipment


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Studies production order to ascertain type and quantity of product, containers to be used, and other packaging requirements.
  • Inspects products prior to packaging and returns rejected products to production departments.
  • Observes packaging operations and inspects containers to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Starts, adjusts, and repairs packaging machinery, or notifies maintenance department.
  • Requisitions containers and other supplies for delivery to work stations.
  • Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.

Position Requirements

Education and/or Experience                                                  

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Language Skills                                              

  • Ability to read and write in English.  Can comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization

Mathematical Skills                                         

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs

Computer Skills                                              

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Inventory software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Fork lift Operator Certification

Other Skills and Abilities                                            

  • Has strong knowledge of packaging operations including machine operating background.
  • Must be able to lift minimum 50 lb containers.
