Maintenance Mechanic (AVON)

Description Position Overview:

Installs, maintains, and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures, pipes and electrical systems within a USDA food processing facility. Maintains a parts inventory and PM protocol.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.
• Researches unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction.
• Utilizes problem solving techniques on machine repairs, diagnosing causes after discussing machine operation variations with others.
• Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
• Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment.
• Lay out, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
• Repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
• Repairs and maintains physical structure.
• Installs, programs, or repairs automated machinery and such as robots or programmable controllers.
• Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill, and milling machine repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures, and tools.
• Operates cutting torch or welding equipment.
• Perform PM's as required. Instruct operators on performance of routine maintenance.
• Operates a forklift and related equipment as required.
 Keep shop, toolbox and work areas clean in compliance with GMP protocol.
 Leads small capital projects and provides support for major capital initiatives.
Position Requirements Requirements:

- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Knowledge of Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
- Read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to compile reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Aptitudes to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Frequently compute rate, ratio, and percent as well as draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Flexibility- ability to prioritize work activities and projects; capability to work with frequent interruptions is required.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a Team Based Environment.
- Formal accredited Certification/Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, and machine repair essential. Food processing experience a plus.
