IOP Therapist 


Using advanced knowledge and skills, this position delivers assessment, diagnostic, and treatment services for young people with alcohol or other drug dependency or abuse issues as defined in the DSM IV Manual.

Responsibilities include:

  • Annual Goal Achievement

  • Development and achievement of annual performance and professional development goals.

  • Assessment

  • Gathers and documents clinically relevant information such as past history, symptoms, signs, and behavior patterns through document reviews and interviews with client, family, other parties.

  • Assesses behavioral health issues that interfere with normal, healthy functioning.

  • Evaluates the nature of and extent of use, misuse, and/or addiction to alcohol and/or other drugs.

  • Makes accurate diagnoses of substance use disorders as defined in DSM IV-TR

  • Treatment Planning

  • Creates treatment plans appropriate to the diagnosis including goals, objectives, interventions, and measures of success.

  • Review, update and/or revise treatment plan as appropriate to clients progress

  • Bases treatment decisions on a clinical framework and effectively establishes medical necessity for the appropriate level of care.

  • Transfers, discharges, and terminates cases to maximize potential gains to be sustained over time.

  • Makes referrals for clients and/or family members as appropriate.

  • Ensures client achieves treatment goals or modifies treatment plan as needed.

  • Demonstrates a comprehensive and integrated individual service plan. Case file clearly communicates the plan.

  • Effectively manages discharges. Recommends appropriate resources.

  • Therapy

  • Provides effective therapeutic interventions in individual, group, and family formats as directed by the treatment plan to address behavioral health (including chemical dependency) issues.

  • Effectively engages clients in treatment relationship by using treatment goals and strategies in treatment interventions.

  • Provides effective family counseling and education to facilitate client treatment.

  • Crisis Intervention

  • Responds to clients/ families and assists meeting their needs in a timely manner.

  • Handles crisis in a calm and effective manner.

  • Case Management

  • Manages the treatment plan. Uses the plan as a working document to coordinate the delivery of services from a variety of appropriate service providers.

  • Works closely in providing liaison services with other agencies involved with clients such as prob  
Position Requirements

Education Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in Human Services or related field
  • Must be licensed in the State of Ohio as a Professional Counselor (PC) or Licensed Social Worker (LSW).
  • Must have experience in providing treatment with chemically dependent adolescents.
  • Must have knowledge of child and family development; individual/group/family counseling techniques; solution-focused, short-term treatment techniques; and mental health/chemical dependency diagnoses (DSMIV).
  • Must be able to work on a team in a fast-paced, high stress environment.
  • Must possess excellent crisis management/de-escalation skills.
  • Must be flexible and able to adjust to change.
  • Must be proficient with the use of a PC.
