The Director of Pharmacy oversees the MedDispense service line of approximately 50+ medications on formulary as well as stock medication, immunization and OTC formulary for the entire platform. 




General Description:


The Director of Pharmacy is responsible for the efficient operation of the MedDispense service line. The Director establishes standards of quality, productivity and performance in accordance with MedExpress Center policies and procedures, as well as, the requirements of State and Federal regulatory agencies. Adheres to the Mission and Values of MedExpress.

Working Relationships:


  • Works collaboratively with Regional Vice Presidents, Area Managers, Center Managers and Area Medical Directors to drive knowledge, awareness and performance of MedDispense at the center level; Works with Purchasing and outside vendors, as well as Providers and Clinical staff.




Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in DeNovo planning and implementation by ensuring center set up, coordination of training and compliance with MedDispense regulations.
  • Maintains and reviews metrics related to center and platform MedDispense performance. Monitor variations of medication quantities and duration as compared to formulary.
  • Monitors real time inventory in the centers and makes recommendation on changes in par levels or ordering patterns.
  • Partners with RVP’s, AM’s, CM’s and AMD’s to drive knowledge, awareness and performance of MedDispense at the center level.
  • Coordinates and manages the annual flu shot program. Keeps current on CDC guidelines for immunizations and storage.
  • Keeps current and communicate knowledge and relevant information to Providers and clinical staff at all times in areas including but not limited to:
    • Disease states with related medications and supplies to ensure accurate and complete information and services are provided to patients.
    • Applicable laws, regulations, policy and procedures, professional standards and excellent customer service practices pertaining to pharmacy / MedDispense operations in the centers.
  • Serves as a pharmacy subject matter expert for Providers and clinical staff.
  • Participates when appropriate in continuing education and continuous improvement activities.
  • Develops and maintains professional relationships with Pharmacy Boards to ensure compliance.
  • Serves as the Pharmacist in Charge as required by State Boards of Pharmacy. Obtains and maintains pharmacist licensure as required by state regulations relevant to the states MedExpress operates in.
  • Works in conjunction with our vendors to oversee the operation, training and development of center team members involved in the pharmacy associated activities to insure compliance with applicable pharmacy regulations and quality standards.
  • Works in conjunction with the Director of Procurement to maintain vendor relationships, requests for capital expenditures and contract requirements. Participates in the clinical procurement committee meetings.
  • Collaborates with the Vice President of Clinical Operations and the Vice President of Provider and Clinical Quality to oversee formulary additions and changes.
  • Manages and communicates substitutions to formulary and maintains a zero tolerance for backorders.
  • Ensure that the MedExpress brand is protected and MedExpress patients and prescribers are handled to the MedExpress standards by working closely with the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Develops and maintains Pharmacy / MedDispense policy and procedure in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations. 
  • Demonstrates a commitment to grow the pharmacy / MedDispense business unit and familiar with business plan model.
  • Periodic travel to markets to visit centers, participate in area or region meetings and / or meetings with state boards.



Job Accountabilities:


  • Responsible for MedExpress adherence to all clinical pharmacy policies, directives, rules, regulations and clinical performance standards of the state, the federal government, and accrediting bodies.



Position Requirements



  • Current Pharmacist license as granted by the appropriate state licensing authority (R.Ph / PharmD.)
  • Experience evaluating information to determine compliance with standards, laws, and regulations.
  • Experience / knowledge of DEA regulations and drug diversion.
  • At least two (2) years of experience as a pharmacist. Hospital practice preferred.
  • At least one (1) year of experience managing a pharmacy.
  • At least one (1) year of experience planning, developing, and managing departmental expense and revenue.
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships within a team.
  • Experience providing customer service to internal and external customers, including meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.



Working Conditions

Non-Center Based. Requires: the ability to sit at a computer for hours at a time (with some bending and stooping), travel to Centers (if so, the noise level is moderate and there is potential for exposure to infectious diseases and blood-borne pathogens).
