The manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the HIM Center’s operations in order to ensure efficient and effective processes are carried out across MedExpress’ multiple centers.  Health information management   includes oversight of the coding audit function of the Compliance Department's HIM Center.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Supervises the day-to-day operations of the HIM Center. Implements and provides oversight to the information management system(s), including the coding audit function. Monitors and contributes to the development of the HIM Center’s standards for secure quality data/information storage, access and release.
  • Contributes to the development of the HIM Centers policies and procedures as needed and ensures policies are reviewed and revised annually.
  • Enforces the HIM Center’s policies and procedures.  Provides education and training to MedExpress employees in areas relevant to HIM Center’s processes for receiving, tracking, authorizing and submitting record requests.
  • Serves as an internal consultant on health information management issues and carries out the functions including: release of information, confidentiality, informational security, information storage and retrieval, records retention, verification of health record documentation and, use of classification systems such as coding, documentation standards.
  • Oversees and audits records for coding and documentation errors and government and payer compliance.
  • Oversees and audits high level EM Codes, new and annual provider audits.
  • Oversees and audits other record/documentation type audits as identified within the Compliance Department.
Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of HIPAA, HITECH, and other State and Federal requirements for the protection of patient privacy and safeguarding of protected health information.
  • Certified coder with 4-6 years experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong analytical skills for summarizing audit results
  • Comprehensive understanding of MedExpress record system(s).
  • Experienced and skilled in the principles and processes for providing customer services to all areas and departments of MedExpress which utilizes and is impacted by medical records.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills with the ability to meet project deadlines and work under pressure.
