THE RIGHT CANDIDATE

We are currently growing at a rate of over 30% per year and have continued to see robust growth from existing as well as new clients. To manage and continue this growth, we seek to hire a VP of Business Development to oversee our new client growth nationwide.

The right candidate will be at a Sr. Director or VP level with proven experience creating and developing relationships with Fortune 500 brands and marketing agency partners to pitch and win new business.  The ideal candidate can come in many flavors, including but not limited to:

  1. Someone who thrives on the competitiveness of business development, but loves the consultative approach when developing custom social media marketing solutions clients;
  2. A seasoned Account Director who has managed a variety of $500K-$1M+ consumer marketing campaigns for Fortune 500 clients, and has excelled in recent years developing new business within their portfolio and often can be found developing or support the agency’s new business development efforts.
  3. An experienced marketing or advertising agency business development executive who is a hunter and knows how to find or create budget from their network of contacts
  4. A Director or VP of social / digital strategy who likes the thrill, intellectual challenge and competitiveness of new business pitches.

POSITION OVERVIEW

  • This position is 60% inbound RFP / RFQ proposal management and 40% proactive lead generation; based on existing and past client relationships and maximizing our agency referral partnerships, largely through the Omnicom Group network of agencies.
  • You will be expected to develop new business from mostly Fortune 500 brands in the consumer package goods (CPG), entertainment, travel, auto, retail and gaming industry verticals in which Fanscape has a proven track record.
  • Services you will sell include social, mobile and digital:  Strategy Consulting, Blogger / Influencer marketing, Community Management, Creative & Custom Content Development (webisodes, apps, etc.), Promotions, Paid Social Advertising (Facebook, Twitter etc.), as well as Listening, Measurement & Analytics.
  • You will focus on new client business development wins (not existing account growth) closing agency of record (AOR) / retainer long term contracts and larger project-based social media marketing contracts
  • You will lead all facets of the sales process including: vetting, scoping, pricing, pitching, negotiating and closing deal sizes ranging from $50K to $1M+ with contract periods of 3-12+ months.
  • We employ a team selling, consultative approach to new client development. While you will lead all areas of the sales process, you get support from a pitch team comprised of Creative, Strategy, Marketing & Analytics staff for medium to large opportunities.
  • Success in this role is tied to possessing a consumer marketing mindset and ability to develop relationships at the executive, VP and Account Director level within our partner agencies and brand clients.
  • You should be comfortable managing up to 10 opportunities per month from smaller project campaign quotes to large scale annual AOR RFPs, and be prepared to travel about 20-40% of the time.  You will be meeting with brands, partner agencies, and networking with other divisions of Fanscape’s parent company, The Marketing Arm – based in Dallas, Chicago, New York and other key cities.
  • This position reports to the COO of Fanscape, with a dotted line to the President of Fanscape; and is supported by a presentation specialist and graphic designer as well by a pitch team comprised of Creative, Account Management, Strategy and Analytics staff.

COMPENSATION

Fanscape offers a competitive base salary, a multi-year incentive compensation plan paid quarterly based on new business you close, and a benefits package commensurate with experience.

 

Position Requirements
  • Work Experience: - 10+ years of total work experience, with a majority of experience working for a consumer marketing, PR, digital, advertising or consumer promotions agency, Fortune 500 brand or company. Experience in a management consulting firm focused on social and digital strategy is also of interest to us.
  • Sales Experience: 5+ years of proven sales / new business development experience. Comfortable selling to C-level executives, VPs and Directors at Fortune 500 companies.
  • Contacts: Deep relationships and contacts at marketing/advertising agencies and Fortune 500 brands.  Contacts within our targeted verticals of Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), entertainment, retail, gaming, automotive, entertainment and travel are helpful.  Relationships in other areas such as Technology, Financial Services, or Hispanic or multi-cultural marketing are also helpful.
  • Consumer Marketing Work Experience: 3-5+ years of working for a brand, agency or company that focused on consumers for their marketing and promotions.  Past work experience in social media marketing, public relations (PR), advertising, digital media / new media, media buying company, or an interactive agency is helpful.  Candidate may also have online, social and/or consumer marketing experience within a company.
  • Social Media Expertise: Candidate should have intermediate knowledge of social media marketing and community management concepts such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Pinterest; in addition to knowledge of niche social media / blogger sites, video portals (i.e. YouTube), third party vendors that offer compelling content and interactivity, and mobile applications that extend the social media experience.
  • Consultative Sales Approach & Creativity: Ability to develop creative social media campaign strategies that resonate with the target audience to achieve our client’s business goals.  Develop your own ideas as well as leverage our Creative, Strategy, Research & Analytics and Marketing Departments as needed to put forth the most compelling solution for our prospective clients.
  • Opportunity Management & Reporting: Candidate should be comfortable managing monthly and quarterly sales goals, and will be expected to participate in weekly business development meetings with Fanscape senior leadership.
