Description

'New Choices' is an afternoon/early evening intensive outpatient program (IOP) for substance abusing adolescents, aged 12-17.  The program operates 4 days/week (M-Th). Staff is off on Fridays.

Seeking ADOLESCENT COUNSELOR for Mercer County Adolescent IOP program.  Successful candidate will work with adolescents and their families and advocates with other service providers, referral sources and community agencies to support recovery of adolescents with substance abuse issues or the co-ocurring disorder of substance abuse and mental illenss.

Job Summary:

Provides, within agency objectives and practices and under the supervision of a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, individual and group counseling services to individuals and their families: as well as case management services to support a substance free lifestyle.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Clinical:

  • Conducts thorough initial and ongoing assessments utilizing the Perform Care System
  • Utilizes structured curricula and protocols to promote psycho-education, skill acquisition and to maintain focus in groups
  • Develops, with clients, realistic treatment plans based on target/problem areas, and collaborates to achieve measurable objectives
  • Meets individually with clients on a weekly basis to monitor progress towards objectives identified in treatment plan
  • Involves and engages family and significant others in the recovery process and assists them in understanding the illness, coping with it and managing its effects.
  • Arranges treatment meetings with referral sources, family members, school personnel and anyone who is involved with client’s treatment

 Service Coordination and Documentation:

  • Ensure client confidentiality by following strict rules and regulations of agency policies
  • Establishes and maintains communication with referral sources, other authorized agencies, and treatment providers
  • Identifies and links community resources to support group activities
  • Consults with other service providers and documents their participation in the recovery process
  • Maintain accurate  and up-to-date case records/client files consistent with agency and funding requirements
  • Completes weekly individual and group notes, case management notes, and updated treatment plans to be  reviewed and signed by Program Coordinator
  • Complete monthly reports for each client and give to Program Coordinator for review and signature

Counselor Responsibilities:

  • All clinical paperwork to be reviewed and signed by Program Coordinator
  • Attends regularly scheduled supervisions
  • All client files are up to date and in compliance with agency policies
  • Client files to be audited by Program Coordinator on a weekly basis (minimum 3 weekly)
  • Responsible for the weekly collection and monitoring of client’s urine specimen
  • All time off requests (including vacation, holiday, personal, and partial work day) need to be approved by Program Supervisor
  • Attend all required trainings and stay current with required online trainings
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required;  Master’s Degree preferred
  • Certification as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor (C.A.D.C.) or demonstrated progress toward certification
  • A minimum of one year experience working with the designated population
  • Medical clearance and Fingerprinting required

Proposed Salary upto $35/hr. (depending on exp. and license)  
Schedule Mon-Thurs (anytime between 10am to 7pm)
