Description

The Communications and PR Manager promotes and positions CORE as a preeminent first responder in humanitarian emergencies. Reporting to the Director, Global Communications, this position will work to develop compelling content and raise brand awareness of the organization via media outreach. She/he/they will source content from global programs and collaborate with regional staff to ensure branding is consistent worldwide. The ideal candidate will be a strong writer who understands the importance of human-first storytelling and media relations. The Communications & PR Manager will be a key resource during emergency responses.

Responsibilities:?

  • Work with global humanitarian response field teams to capture, write and edit beneficiary stories to be shared through integrated channels (print, social media, video, etc.)

  • Build relationships with field teams and identify story pitch ideas and spokespeople for media opportunities.

  • Support Director, Global Communications with media outreach efforts including prepping speakers, gathering visual assets, sharing impact statistics and writing talking points.

  • Create and write press releases, media tip sheets, beneficiary stories, website articles, social media posts and other marketing materials as needed.

  • Serve as a key communications?team?resource during emergency responses; maintain latest approved messaging; ensure CORE is listed on media How to Help pages and build photo and video broll kits.

  • Coordinate with freelance photographers, videographers and field teams to ensure visual assets are captured and catalogued.

  • Offer administrative, project management and logistics support to ensure meeting productivity and follow-up actions are clearly defined, and met within deadlines.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/S preferred in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, international relations, global studies, or related field.

  • 3-5 years professional experience in communications or journalism; preference for experience in international nonprofit or NGO.

  • Exceptional, demonstrated written and oral communications skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail and temperament for working in a deadline-oriented, fast-paced environment.

  • Strong, clear communications skills and ability to work across teams, cultures, countries, and time zones to support the organization's goals and meet deadlines.

  • Impeccable organizational, planning and prioritization skills that enable execution of many urgent and sometimes competing tasks.

  • Passion for international development, global health, human-first communications and/or humanitarian relief.

  • A 'can-do' attitude, flexibility and ability to work through ambiguous and fluid situations to achieve daily goals.

  • Positive, solutions-oriented approach to work and passion for teamwork and productive collaboration.

  • Fluency in English required, knowledge of other languages a plus.

  • Experience working in Adobe creative cloud, visual editing software, or photo/video and graphic skills is a plus.

  • Fluency in MS Office necessary.

  • Willingness to travel (domestic and international) occasionally and work after hours during emergency responses are required in the role.

This role is based out of Los Angeles, with a hybrid remote and in-person work modality. The Manager will be expected to visit the LA CORE HQ at least two times a week.
