Position Title: Senior Director of Student Affairs
Reports to: Vice President for Enrollment and Student Success
Supervises: Director of Campus Life, Director of Residence Life and Student Conduct, Coordinator of Commuter Affairs
Primary function: The Senior Director of Student Affairs is responsible for the overall development and success of students at Saint Vincent College, providing supervision and guidance to the departments of Residence Life, Campus Life, and Commuter Affairs. This individual is committed to creating a supportive and welcoming environment for students, overseeing student services, addressing student concerns, and promoting a student-centered culture across the campus. This position provides leadership and strategic direction in all matters of student affairs, student life, and student services, for the undergraduate and graduate programs of the College. The incumbent provides first-line contact and problem resolution for parents, students, campus and community members, and others to assist in optimizing students' experiences.
The Senior Director of Student Affairs is responsible for the interpretation and application of Saint Vincent College standards and codes that govern student conduct and status both on and off campus. The incumbent will ensure the College Mission is considered in carrying out all duties and responsibilities of this position.
Required Qualifications:
Education: A master’s degree in an appropriate discipline plus 5-7 years’ experience in student personnel administration/higher education administration, counseling, management, or related fields.
Experience:
- Five years of direct leadership responsibility for student affairs, student life, and student services in higher education working with traditional undergraduate students in a residential campus environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High level of energy and enthusiasm for working in an extremely demanding and diverse environment.
- Possess experience and an overall thorough understanding of complex and intersectional issues related to student success and retention
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work successfully with diverse populations of students, faculty, staff, parents, and external parties.
- Proficiency with computer technology to access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate with others.
Essential duties:
Promotes the Catholic, Benedictine mission and identity of Saint Vincent College and develops and implements new programs and services to support and advance the same with respect to student life.
Provides overall direction of effective programs in student services and campus life, including but not limited to residence life, student service, and support activities.
Serves as the Chief Judicial Officer for student matters of the College. Directs all processes and procedures related to the campus conflict resolution system. Oversees compliance with the policies and procedures embodied in the Student Code of Conduct and the Student Handbook.
Develop a yearly budget for operating and capital expenditures, allocate financial resources within the department, and maintain accurate records.
Respond to emergencies in and outside of regular workday; be available for consultation for challenging situations.
Maintain close collaboration with campus departments and as needed, refer students and parents to resources, offices, or persons that can be of assistance to them; serve in a continuing collaborating role with these sources.
Develop and execute long- and short-term division goals based on the SVC Strategic Plan and aimed at maximizing student success, enhancing full belonging, and holistic student development.
Provide other services and perform other tasks as requested or assigned by the Vice President for Enrollment and Student Success.
Special Challenges:
Standard office environment with regular walking and stairs; must be available after general office hours and weekends for consultations and emergencies; additional evening and weekend obligations consistent with the academic calendar and student lifestyle are required.
