POSITION REPORTS TO: Business Unit Controller
SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES: None
JOB LOCATION: Poseidon Barge
STATUS: Full-time; FLSA Exempt
POSITION OBJECTIVE: The Payroll Administrator will be responsible for the payroll functions of the organization, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing and accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
- Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
- Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
- Provides records and documentation for audits
- Set up and monitor payroll policies and procedures
- Track insurance arrears
- Prepare payroll journal entries
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Associate Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field preferred
- Minimum 3-5 years of related experience required
POSITION COMPETENCIES - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Extensive knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong knowledge of FLSA and other payroll-related laws
- Solid knowledge of MS Office
- Excellent communication and people skills
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds occasionally
