Description

Brock & Scott, PLLC, a recognized leader in creditors’ rights and legal default services, is seeking a motivated Associate Attorney to join our Foreclosure Practice Group in Portland, Maine.

This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney looking to build or expand their experience in creditors’ rights, foreclosure, real estate, and related litigation while managing meaningful legal matters from initiation through resolution. The Associate Attorney will work closely with experienced attorneys, clients, and legal professionals while taking an active role in case strategy, court proceedings, title review, and client representation.

We are seeking an attorney who combines sound legal judgment, strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to exceptional client service. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven practice and take ownership of their matters while contributing to the continued success of the firm.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage foreclosure matters through various stages of the legal process, including contested and litigated cases.
  • Draft, review, and approve pleadings, motions, correspondence, and other foreclosure-related legal documents.
  • Represent clients in hearings, mediations, depositions, and other legal proceedings, both virtually and in person.
  • Analyze complex case issues and provide practical, solutions-focused legal guidance.
  • Conduct detailed reviews of chains of title, loan documentation, and other property-related records to identify and resolve potential issues.
  • Maintain proactive communication with clients, providing timely case updates, legal guidance, and recommendations.
  • Work collaboratively with attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, and operational teams to ensure matters progress efficiently and in accordance with client requirements, applicable law, and firm standards.
  • Monitor deadlines, court requirements, and case activity while effectively managing a high-volume caseload.
  • Participate in special projects and other initiatives that support the continued growth and development of the practice.
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active Maine law license and member in good standing.
  • Foreclosure, creditors’ rights, real estate, litigation, or financial services experience is preferred.
  • Strong legal research, analytical, drafting, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and internal teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage competing priorities and a substantial caseload in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Professional, dependable, and committed to delivering responsive, high-quality legal representation.

 

Compensation Details: The compensation range for this position is $90k-$125k based on applicable experience and other relevant factors.

The compensation amount is not guaranteed. Individual compensation is based on various factors unique to each candidate. This amount is what we reasonably believe we will pay for the position; however, offer amounts may vary based on factors such as geographic location, experience, and qualifications.

 

Benefits Details: Brock & Scott, PLLC offers an attractive benefit package to full-time employees on the 1st of the following month of hire. The insurance portion includes medical, dental, voluntary life, voluntary vision, and critical illness, all at competitive rates. At the 90-day introductory period, the Firm also provides a basic life insurance policy in the amount of one time your annual salary (with a minimum of $25,000 and a maximum of $200,000.00) at no cost.

Full-time employees receive paid holidays, including six (6) firm-recognized holidays and one (1) Day of Observance, as well as a PTO package of 12 days per year. PTO accrues monthly and is credited on the 15th of each month, in accordance with firm policy. PTO benefits increase after 2 years of employment and again after 5 years of employment. After six months of service, employees over the age of 21 become eligible to participate in the firm's 401(k) plan at the beginning of the next quarter.

 

Geographic Eligibility Applicants must currently reside within Brock & Scott, PLLC’s geographic footprint. Eligible states include: AL, CT, FL, GA, IN, KY, ME, MD, MA, MI, NH, NJ, NC, OH, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, VT, VA, and WV.

 

Pre-Employment Requirements Employment with Brock & Scott, PLLC is contingent upon the successful completion of all required pre-employment screenings and verifications, which may include, but are not limited to, a criminal background check, conflict of interest check, employment and education verification (as applicable), and a pre-employment drug screening. Drug testing is conducted only after a conditional offer of employment has been extended and in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
