POSITION SUMMARY

Ohio Christian University is seeking a qualified Facilities Maintenance Specialist to support the safe, efficient, and well-maintained operation of university facilities and grounds. Under the direction of the Director of Maintenance, this position performs a variety of hands-on maintenance, repair, and facility support duties across campus.

The Facilities Maintenance Specialist is responsible for identifying and addressing maintenance needs, completing work orders, assisting with projects and repairs, supporting campus events and seasonal operations, and working with outside contractors as needed. The position requires sound judgment, effective problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and functional campus environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform routine and corrective maintenance, repairs, replacements, and general upkeep of university buildings, facilities, and grounds as assigned.
  • Routine facility inspections: Conduct regular inspections of campus buildings and facilities and report maintenance, safety, or repair needs.
  • Troubleshoot and problem-solve maintenance and facility-related issues.
  • Preventive maintenance: Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on buildings, equipment, fixtures, and facility systems; identify potential issues before they become larger problems.
  • HVAC support: Perform basic HVAC maintenance and troubleshooting and coordinate with outside service providers when specialized repairs are required.
  • Plumbing and electrical repairs: Complete basic plumbing, electrical, lighting, and fixture repairs within the employee's training and qualifications.
  • Carpentry and general repairs: Perform basic carpentry, drywall, painting, door/hardware, flooring, and other general facility repairs.
  • Equipment maintenance: Maintain and inspect maintenance equipment and tools and report equipment requiring repair or replacement.
  • Inventory management: Monitor commonly used maintenance supplies, materials, and parts and communicate replenishment needs.
  • Work order follow-through: Complete assigned work orders in a timely manner and document work performed, materials used, and any follow-up needed.

  • Assist with maintenance projects and prioritize assigned work in coordination with the Director of Maintenance.
  • Order or assist with ordering necessary parts, supplies, and materials for maintenance and repair work.
  • Assist with obtaining cost estimates and providing information for maintenance and facility projects.
  • Assist with snow removal and seasonal grounds support as needed.
  • Support athletic field maintenance in conjunction with the Grounds Department.
  • Assist with new construction and renovation projects, including providing practical input regarding construction methods and products when appropriate.
  • Assist and coordinate with outside contractors as directed.
  • Event setup/support: Assist with the physical setup, teardown, and facility preparation for university events and activities.
  • Maintain awareness of and follow university safety policies and procedures.
  • Use university equipment, tools, facilities, and property responsibly.
  • Be available to assist with occasional evening or weekend maintenance needs as required.
  • Campus appearance: Assist with maintaining a clean, safe, functional, and presentable campus environment.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds.
  • Must be physically able to perform routine maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Must be able to traverse university property and facilities to inspect, diagnose, and address building and facility issues.
  • Must be able to perform the physical duties associated with assigned maintenance responsibilities.
