Description

Bulfinch is a third-generation commercial real estate firm specializing in the acquisition, development, management, and repositioning of commercial properties in Greater Boston. Since 1936, Bulfinch has taken a unique approach to creating value in commercial real estate and has successfully evolved and adapted to industry changes and the needs of all our stakeholders. The firm was founded on a commitment to our employees and the culture we began cultivating 90 years ago embodies our entrepreneurial spirit and sense of family.

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data Analyst / Engineer to serve as the firm's centralized data infrastructure owner. This is a foundational hire that will directly enable Bulfinch's AI strategy-building and maintaining the clean, connected data layer that powers Power BI dashboards, AI models, and decision-making across the organization.

Reporting into the AI & Technology function and working closely with the firm's AI Steering Committee and external AI Strategist, this individual will architect and maintain a Microsoft Fabric and Azure-based data lakehouse, integrating source systems including Yardi, Argus, Juniper Square, SharePoint, and Chatham into a single quarriable source of truth. The role sits at the intersection of data engineering, financial analytics, and commercial real estate operations translating complex data into strategic insights that drive informed business decisions across investments, asset management, leasing, and accounting.

Position Requirements

Data Infrastructure & Engineering

• Design, build, and maintain a centralized data lakehouse using Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Lake, and OneLake, consolidating data from Yardi, Argus, Juniper Square, SharePoint, Chatham, and other source systems.

• Develop and manage automated data pipelines that extract, clean, and load data from all source systems into a single, reliable layer accessible to Power BI, AI models, and future tools.

• Execute daily, weekly, and monthly data integrity processes crucial for supporting quantitative models and portfolio reporting.

• Optimize data gathering and validation processes for efficiency and scalability as the firm’s data footprint grows.

• Ensure data governance and consistency across all integrated platforms, reducing reliance on stale exports and manual reporting.

Analytics & Reporting

• Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards for property performance, portfolio analytics, investment underwriting, and leadership reporting.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop data-driven narratives using visualization dashboards for internal asset operations and investor reporting.

• Conduct research and curate datasets from internal and external sources; derive actionable insights to inform leasing, acquisitions, and capital planning decisions.

• Provide financial analysis support across business units including investments, asset management, and accounting.

• Translate complex data into clear, strategic insights that drive informed business strategies for senior leadership.

AI Data Layer & Model Integration

• Serve as the data infrastructure owner for AI initiatives including Ask Bulfinch, automated deal memos, lease abstraction, and email triage—ensuring AI models have access to clean, well-structured Bulfinch data.

• Integrate Azure OpenAI and/or Claude API with the firm’s data layer, enabling AI tools to query and reason over live portfolio information.

• Collaborate with the external AI Strategist and AI Steering Committee on data requirements for new AI tool builds and model deployments.

• Support Dataverse implementation for structured CRM-style records, deal tracking, and Power Apps integrations where applicable.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Facilitate data capture through internal systems, enabling business owners across acquisitions, accounting, property management, and leasing to harness available information effectively.

• Work closely with the IT Specialist on M365 administration, system access, security, and infrastructure to ensure a stable, secure data environment.

• Support and actively contribute to Bulfinch’s AI Steering Committee, providing data infrastructure input on governance, initiative prioritization, and adoption best practices.

• Collaborate with IT Specialist on technology vendor coordination and data providers including Yardi, Argus, Juniper Square, and Chatham.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• 3–5 years of professional experience in data engineering, data analytics, or a related field—ideally within commercial real estate, PropTech, finance, or a data-intensive industry.

• Proficiency in Microsoft database management tools including Fabric, Azure SQL, and OneLake; hands-on experience building and maintaining data pipelines across multiple source systems.

• Strong command of SQL, Excel, and VBA for data transformation, querying, and automation.

• Demonstrated experience with Power BI or Tableau for dashboard development and enterprise reporting.

• Experience analyzing large, complex datasets with a focus on structure, integrity, and scalability.

• Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to translate complex data concepts for non-technical stakeholders across acquisitions, accounting, and property management.

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Computer Science, Statistics, Data Analytics, Data Science, or a related field.

Preferred

• Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate (DP-700) certification

• Proficiency in Python, R, or similar data-centric programming languages.

• Experience with relational databases and REST APIs for integrating third-party platforms.

• Hands-on experience with Azure OpenAI, Claude API, or other LLM integrations for AI-powered applications.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Dataverse and Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate).

• Experience with CRE platforms such as Yardi, Argus, Juniper Square, MRI, or Chatham.

• Basic understanding of accounting processes and familiarity with private equity, investment risk, or capital markets.

• Working knowledge of commercial real estate fundamentals—asset classes, leasing, asset management, or investment underwriting.

• Exposure to the PropTech landscape (VTS, Measurabl, CoStar, Placer.ai, etc.).

• Graduate degree (MS in Data Science, Computer Science, or related field) a plus.
