INSPECTOR

Department: Quality Assurance

Reports to: Quality Manager

Employment Classification: Full time/ Non-exempt

Summary

Set up and perform mechanical inspection of all parts and assemblies; and to verify incoming product(s) meets WSMC purchase order requirements. Must be proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments including but not be limited to; micrometers, veneers, dial calipers, depth micrometers, height gage, gage blocks and various other precision measuring instruments. In addition, this position requires the candidate to be proficient in the use of computers and be familiar with Microsoft Office Software. These tasks are completed by performing the following duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reads and interprets product drawings and understands geometric tolerances and dimensioning application(s).
  • Receives purchased material and products and compares them to the purchase order confirming that the requirements of the purchase order have been met including quantities. Responsible for verification and review of inspection documentation and material certifications to assure they meet the product drawing, specification, and purchase order requirements.
  • Required to mark parts by utilizing one or more part marking processes (e.g. manual vibro-peen, controlled dot peen, and/or, other marking methods (as applicable).
  • Perform visual and dimensional inspections of in-process and finished components, sub-assemblies and products and documenting the results of the inspection.
  • Rejects all damaged or nonconforming parts and corresponds with the Materials department on disposition of rejected parts that may be scrap, and/or, require rework.
  • Assists in the disposition of non-conforming material.
  • Assist Quality and Engineering in investigations of process related quality issues.
  • Provides documentation to the Materials Department so that they can receive items into our inventory control system.
  • Request more complete specifications to drawings where needed.
  • Performs administrative duties that are pertinent to the job. Perform review of incoming paperwork for incoming product.
  • Assist with ongoing cost reduction efforts.
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Must possess at least 3 years in Mechanical Inspecting and/or Quality Assurance role
  • Must be able to use and read micrometers, pi tapes, calipers, and other measuring equipment
  • Must have ability to read mechanical and manufacturing drawings and blueprints
  • Must possess a working knowledge of GD & T
  • Must be detail oriented, keeping accurate records and files
  • Willing to become proficient with new equipment and methods
  • Willing to work flexible hours and overtime
  • Willing to work with QA Team to find innovative solutions
  • Willing to provide input for work instructions
  • Willing to obtain and maintain ASME / National Board Certified Inspector accreditation
