About the Organization The Agricultural and Labor Program, Inc. (The ALPI) is a private, non-profit, community-based agency that provides services to migrants, seasonal farm workers, disadvantaged and disenfranchised children, individuals and families, in the State of Florida. The ALPI encourages the involvement of individuals served in decision-making processes affecting their lives.

The ALPI was established in 1968 with five underlying principles that guides all its activities:

In conceptualizing the ALPI overall program, five (5) main areas of activity continue to emerge:

ALPI's Children and Family Services Division focus is on activities that enhance the process of providing developmentally appropriate early education activities including, but not limited to, health, nutrition, dental, mental health, parent information and referral on quality child care and health services programs.
The ALPI is a certified Child/Adult Care Food Program agency. Through this program, ALPI provides nutrition and meal services for Head Start and Child Care Program participants and certifies private child care providers to participate in the program.

The ALPI will continue to follow its mission of helping and advocating for those affected by poverty, as well as continue our commitment to bridging gaps that hinder self-sufficiency.

Description

SUMMARY:

The Kitchen Helper reports to the Cook. Responsible for assisting in the meal preparation and delivery to classrooms and/or centers.
Work is supervised by the Cook and is reviewed through monitoring.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Include the following:
? Assists in the preparation of meals and snacks according to approved menus.
? Responsible for picking up and transporting food to assigned centers.
? Assists in recording amounts of food prepared and served.
? Attends staff/department and parent meetings as requested.
? Serves as food transporter to centers without kitchens.
? Assists in the preparation of food for family-style serving.
? Cleans and maintains kitchen, storage areas and vehicle if assigned.
? Assists with daily cleaning of kitchen area, which, includes but are not limited to cleaning of stoves, refrigerators, mixers, sweeping, mopping, sanitizing dishes and tables and disposing garbage.
? Prepares food for parent meetings and/or special activities as requested.
? Reports suspected child abuse and neglect situations.
? Attends pre-services, in-service trainings, workshops and seminars in the specific of quantity food preparation and production as requested.
? May prepare or assist in preparing menus.
? Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to read, interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients or employees of organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or General Development Diploma (GED) and no experience.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must be 21 years of age.
Must have a valid Florida Driver License.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Must have means of transportation.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
