Description

PURPOSE OF JOB:

Leads development and oversees implementation of sanitation policies and programs including the Sanitation Preventive Controls in the Ventura Foods' Food Safety Plan required to comply with the Code of Federal Regulations (21 CFR Part 117). Provides technical expertise to the organization in sanitation, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action. Enables effective execution of sanitation programs at the manufacturing sites. Defines key performance indicators (KPIs), monitors progress, trains/mentors/coaches and provides guidance to plant personnel. Acts as liaison between plants and corporate technical teams to provide training and support to address sanitation, pest control and infrastructure and equipment hygienic design challenges.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and effectively communicate sanitation policies, standards, and procedures, including Sanitation Preventive Controls section of the Ventura Foods Food Safety Plan, to enable sustainable implementation of these programs.
- Conduct validation to ensure sanitation programs are sustainable and compliant with applicable regulations.
- Establish and monitor key sanitation metrics to identify and react to emerging issues
- Interface with Learning and Development and plants to develop and deliver sanitation program training, resource materials and job aids.
- Lead the reassessment of Sanitation Preventive Controls in the Food Safety Plan after significant changes, unanticipated events or every three years as required by 21 CFR 117.
-Provide technical leadership and guidance to Operations Quality, R&D, and manufacturing facilities in the areas of sanitation, pathogen/environmental control, integrated pest control, new equipment design, installation or construction and other food safety or quality initiatives related to sanitation processes.
- Support plants in conducting risk assessments and developing sustainable corrective actions
- Support plants, engineering, environmental/safety and maintenance personnel in addressing sanitary design issues and in risk-based prioritization of capital projects related to sanitation and food safety.
- Support R&D and Process Technology to ensure new processes and equipment installations are designed to provide proper sanitation and prevent compromises to food safety.

Develop and conduct sanitation audits/assessments at Company plants and Co-mans to identify areas for sanitation program and practice continuous improvement.

Leverage sanitation vendors and other internal and external expertise to implement effective sanitation programs, including but not limited to, design and testing of new/improved sanitation methods, best practice sharing between plants, and identification of operational savings opportunities.

On-boards new plant sanitation manager/supervisors; leads training, mentors and coaches others in area of expertise.

Travel required 40% of the time. Position to located at Ventura Foods headquarters, Brea, CA.

 
Position Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Food Safety, Microbiology or related technical field with 10+ years of experience in food industry including 2+ years of experience in each of the following areas: plant sanitation, integrated pest management, food safety, and HACCP team experience.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL LEVEL:

Demonstrates ability to effectively apply expertise across diverse food systems. Applies principles of: HACCP, root cause analysis, risk assessment, issues management, regulatory compliance, supplier management and quality control. Experience in technical project management and program/process development. Demonstrates effective external networking and strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

SCOPE OF THE JOB:

Under the general direction of the VP of Food Safety, manages a variety of programs, projects, and resources related to company Sanitation Policies and FSMA regulatory compliance. Recommends, initiates, and manages new Sanitation technologies, projects, and programs. Develops and utilizes, in coordination with other technical staff, new hypotheses/technology as it relates to identifying Sanitation innovation and opportunities that meet company and regulatory standards.
