Summary:  Manages bank sales activities at both our 17th Avenue and Scott Street locations by establishing goals and activities to attain new customer relationships and retain and grow existing relationships.  Develops staff through ongoing coaching sessions, to ensure that all are personally committed to consistently exceeding customer expectations every time, everywhere.  Plans, directs and controls bank sales office operations, ensuring that established policies and procedures are followed and delegating responsibilities as needed to meet office objectives.  Plans, directs, and engages other departments (Mortgage, Wealth Management, Business Banking, etc) to meet office objectives.  Maintains daily contact with bank staff, frequent internal and external customer contact, and also has frequent contact with industry and community associations in the course of developing business activities.  Performs all duties in accordance with the Vision and Core Values (Customers, Excellence, Ethics, Employees, and Communities) of River Valley Bank.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  1. Identify needs and refer customers to business partners within and across lines of business who can best meet those needs.
  2. In consultation with the Regional Bank Director, develops and implements written short-and long-term plans for achieving branch growth, sales, fee income and service goals.  Manages and inspects sales efforts on a daily basis by setting individual goals and coaching sales staff.  Establishes goals that are: specific and measurable for referrals that include selling and cross selling by product and transactional volumes, all with a consistent emphasis on total customer banking relationships, growing existing relationships and truly delivering a great customer experience.
  3. Selects, trains, develops, schedules, assigns work to, manages and reviews job performance of retail bank staff.  Interviews and hires quality staff that is engaging, verbal and assertive, and possess strong sales abilities.
  4. Manages, directs, understands and/or participates in as needed in all bank operations to ensure all company services are made available to customers and are processed accurately and efficiently.  Ensures the bank is equipped with all required supplies and promotional support to optimally sell bank products.  Delegates various operational duties to the staff and assumes overall administrative responsibility for bank operations.
  5. Facilitates “Critical Linkage” to manage development and maintenance of client relationships and identify referral opportunities throughout Business Banking, Mortgage, Wealth Management, River Valley Insurance, and Retail Departments.
  6. Supervises and participates in the opening and maintenance of all savings, checking, and deposit services of bank customers.
  7. Meets individual sales accountability expectations.
  8. Meets overall accountability for bank operations.
  9. Develops, maintains and cultivates community and new business contacts with important market sources to enhance bank visibility and maximize business development opportunities.
  10. Prospects and counsels potential consumer and small business customers, takes applications and processes and closes loans and deposits, delivering an excellent customer experience at every point of contact.  Assists Collection Department in maintaining office delinquency (consumer) within accepted guidelines.
  11. Operates in full compliance with internal policies and procedures as well as applicable regulations and laws. This position meets the definition of a Mortgage Loan Officer (MLO) by the SAFE Act regulations and is hereby required to register and maintain a unique identifying number.  The process is coordinated through the Human Resources Department.
  12. Upholds and bank’s philosophy and all policies by maintaining appropriate controls to assure full compliance with applicable laws and regulations, thereby fulfilling legal responsibilities and enhancing the quality of our organization.  Responsible for the understanding, knowledge and management of all required training and compliance issues (i.e. CIP, BSA, etc.)
  13. Ensures the bank meets all aspects of the audit checklist.  Helps Customer Service Reps and others to resolve balancing problems and authorize over/short adjustments in accordance with RVB policies and procedures.
  14. Oversees the general maintenance of the facility.  Reports equipment and building status; recommends and arranges for building improvements.  Maintains a neat and professional atmosphere at all times.  Ensures all security procedures are strictly followed.  Protects all funds, physical assets and property of the bank within budget in cooperation with River Valley Facilities and Security.

Other Responsibilities:

Perform other related duties as required or assigned that are in the spirit of this job description and position as necessary for the Bank and the Department to function effectively.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Able to demonstrate an understanding of basic business conditions and how they relate to economic conditions.

Skills and Requirement:

  1. A minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience is preferred.
  2. A minimum of 3 years of sales experience is preferred.
  3. A thorough knowledge of all bank products and services.
  4. Complete familiarity with the bank’s savings, checking and lending policies and guidelines, as well as specific loan programs, qualifications, and insurance products or demonstrated ability to acquire knowledge.
  5. Ability to make confident decisions in a timely manner and communicate results to applicable parties.
  6. Ability to work 40-50 hours per week with an average of 45 hours per week.
  7. Demonstrated leadership skills.
  8. Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.
  9. Proficient knowledge of all systems supporting branch operations, i.e. security, online, ATM, etc.

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software and Windows and Microsoft Office software.
