Description

GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:  Responsible for all areas of semi-monthly domestic payroll for the United Church of Christ Board, Conferences and related organizations as well as the monthly missionary payroll. Responsible for reconciliation of all payroll related accounts as well as other reconciliations as assigned by the Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable Manager. Special projects as assigned by department management.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare input of payroll maintenance.

  • Review payroll report for accuracy.

  • Journal entries for the semi-monthly domestic and monthly missionary payroll and deductions, including updates and maintenance of the general ledger interface.

  • Journal entries for the semi-monthly conference payroll and deductions.

  • Maintain liaison with Human Resources for changes in employee status.

  • Distribute payroll data to appropriate Financial Services staff for internal audit review.

  • Maintain liaison with payroll service provider in cooperation with the Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable Manager.

  • Respond to all payroll tax authority notices.

  • Maintain data and pay appropriate parties for payroll deductions including but not limited to liens, garnishments, tax sheltered annuities, parking garages, gyms, insurance partners and donations.

  • Maintain data and pay Met Life bill monthly.

  • Prepare monthly account analysis for all payroll related balance sheet accounts.

  • Prepare monthly reconciliations on other accounts as assigned by the Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable Manager.

  • Prepare and remit the semi-annual Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation filings.

  • Complete quarterly reconciliations of the 941’s to the appropriate general ledgers, including the year to date reconciliation for the audit.

  • Maintain all current and archived payroll files, including those of a confidential nature.

  • Prepare special reports and/or complete special projects as assigned by department management.

  • Other duties as assigned.

     

 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED required plus 3-5 years of demonstrated experience in payroll processing.

  • Experience with payroll service providers.

  • Bookkeeping or demonstrated skills in reconciliations.

  • High level of computer proficiency, specifically with spreadsheet and word processing software such as Excel or Word. American Fundware, Financial Edge or F9 a plus.

  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality required.

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.

  • Well organized and detailed oriented.

  • Desire and sensitivity to work in diverse racial, ethnic, cultural and religious settings.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially as well as independently
