What We Are Looking For

NCU is currently seeking a dynamic individual to become part of our Graduate School team as an Adjunct Dissertation Chair (focus on business dissertations).

The Adjunct Dissertation Chair will be responsible for guiding business doctoral candidates through their doctoral dissertation program requirements. This position requires intensive interaction, a high level of engagement, and tailored methodological guidance with doctoral students.  Candidate must be comfortable providing substantive frequent critical feedback on dissertation drafts including the tenability of a topic, methods, design, and academic writing.  Candidate must be adept at setting and managing time-bound goals with the candidate. Candidates should be able to demonstrate their ability to guide students toward successful completion of their doctoral dissertations through proficiency in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods and designs. Qualitative research experience must include coding and analytics and experience with qualitative software. Quantitative research experience must include statistical proficiency and experience with statistical software.

 
Position Requirements

Essential Job Functions

  • Communicating frequently and timely with doctoral candidates;
  • Setting and managing time-bound goals with doctoral candidates;
  • Providing clear guidance to candidates to support doctoral program progress and successful completion;
  • Providing critical feedback on dissertation milestone drafts to include topic tenability, and quality of problem, purpose, questions, methods, design, analytics, interpretation, and scholarly writing;
  • Assisting doctoral candidates in understanding how to modify their dissertation milestone documents based on formal academic review feedback;
  • Participating in the oral defense of their doctoral candidates; and
  • Assisting doctoral candidates with navigating the overarching dissertation process.
  • Promotes a graduate culture of scholarship, teaching, service, and practice.
  • Complete all required professional development activities as defined in the Faculty Handbook.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, word processing tools such as insert comments, track changes and compare documents.
  • Knowledge of APA format.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of academic and business workings of a higher education institution.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in operating equipment, such as personal computer, fax, copier, phone system.
  • Ability to communicate clearly to a variety of constituents.
  • Ability to communicate online including e-mail, chat rooms, videoconferencing and other technology based on communication media.

Education and Experience

  • Doctor of Philosophy or Doctorate of Business Administration degree from an accredited institution of higher learning in Business or closely related field
  • Research-based, scholarly, peer-reviewed journal article publications required
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in research methods and designs
  • Experience as a Dissertation Chair
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Experience with the online delivery of education and the systems that support it
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Must have personal computer and ability to facilitate online instruction and communications remotely
  • All skills, abilities and education will be considered for minimum qualifications
