GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:   Provide administrative support to programs of UCC Wider Church Ministries that are administered by the Global Sharing of Resources team (development, disaster, refugee and volunteer ministries) and by the Mission Education and Interpretation team of Global Ministries of the UCC/Disciples of Christ.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Become and remain conversant with breadth of the United Church of Christ; in particular, programs of Disaster, Volunteer, Refugee, and Sustainable Development Ministries (UCC’s Global Sharing of Resources) and of the UCC/Disciples of Christ Global Ministries with ability to interpret primary program and partnership goals.

 

  • Implement web postings and monitor websites for Global Ministries and for the UCC’s Global Sharing of Resources program areas.

 

  • Format print and on-line documents and resources that are neat, creative, grammatically correct and free of spelling and typographical errors.

 

  • Initiate and receive phone calls and correspondence by mail, e-mail or on-line platforms.  Respond directly to questions and/or forwarding to other appropriate staff.

 

  • Maintain an accurate inventory of resources for Global Ministries and for the Global Sharing of Resources program areas.  Coordinate the inventory of resources handled by United Church Resources. Review invoices for resource materials (as requested) check for accuracy and prepare check requisitions.
     
  • Work closely with other Global Ministries staff and other UCC national staff in coordinating display materials and resource requests.  Coordinate large mailings.

 

  • Coordinate people to attend UCC Conference and Disciples Regional meetings with displays.  Coordinate schedule for resource people at the displays of national church meetings such as the UCC’s General Synod and Disciples’ General Assembly.

 

  • Serve as administrative liaison for volunteer placement and service through UCC
    Volunteer Ministries’ programs and networks which includes, but is not limited to, maintaining accurate databases, administering the reception of all volunteer/intern applications and correspondence with volunteers related to their stage of service.

 

  • Participate as part of staff teams in coordination of meetings and large events.

 

  • Willing to take on new and creative ad hoc tasks, as needed.
 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To perform job satisfactorily, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill, and/or ability required.

 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, and a minimum of three years of demonstrated administrative experience.

 

  • Excellent written and verbal English language skills, including proofreading skills and attention to details.

 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a staff team, working with multiple colleagues, supervisors, and staff teams at once, negotiating and setting priorities to accomplish diverse assignments in a timely manner.

 

  • Ability to maintain and properly handle confidential or sensitive information.

 

  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn to be conversant with the United Church of Christ, Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and national and international partner churches and organizations.

 

  • Proficient in Word, Power point, Outlook and Excel.  Experience with database use, such as Filemaker Pro, and ease with adapting to new technology.

 

  • Website posting experience: posting content, updating pages, creating links, some HTML with the ability to learn new systems.

 

  • Human relations skills to interact effectively with persons of diverse backgrounds and cultures; to be collaborative with capacity for relationship building; and to communicate in ways that value “customer service.”
