OVERVIEW: Work with the 1st – 8th grade after school program 1:00-5:30pm M-
Th, and Tues 12:30-5:30, with 1.5 hours on Friday to clean and gas up vans; prepare daily USDA snack in the Education & Language building for 30 students; provide academic assistance to groups of students; chaperone groups of students on the playground and during trips; transport children from Dry Creek to the Tribal Center, and from the Tribal Center home. Schedule will be adjusted for occasional field trips and evening events.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Transport ASP staff to Dry Creek in time to prepare for daily homework.

  • Assist children with homework.

  • Assist clean-up of homework area.

  • Supervise children on the playground and in the gym.

  • Assure food prep area is clean and sanitary before and after food preparation.

  • Prepare snacks that meet USDA requirements following Monthly Menu.

  • Keep track of inventory of foods and supplies to assure USDA requirements are met.

  • Assure foods are stored appropriately, toss foods that are past due dates.

  • Make changes to menus to assure foods are used before they pass due dates.

  • Clean kitchen and tables in the dining hall, put food and supplies away, let JOM/DASA Coordinator know if there are foods or supplies need

  • Transport children involved in the LEKT After School Program. This may include driving for occasional field trips.

  • Assure children are aware of van rules before boarding.

  • Maintain order and discipline at all times.

  • Correct inappropriate behavior in a positive manner.

  • Treat all children with dignity and respect.

  • Ensure safety of children that includes order and discipline on the van at all times. Including appropriate use of seat belts and not leaving children unattended.

  • Maintain up-to-date emergency records in the vehicle with a list of children’s names, addresses, phones and emergency contacts.

  • Assure children are left at their homes with a responsible adult. Eye contact is best.

  • Record daily attendance and mileage

  • Maintain safety and cleanliness of the tribal vehicle- clean papers and garbage out daily and vacuum and fill gas weekly.

  • Other related duties as assigned

 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Ability to supervise K-12th grade children
  • Ability to ensure a safe and healthy environment including being able to monitor and respond to events at all times. This includes the physical ability to move quickly in order to respond to children who are very active and may need redirection in order to ensure their safety or the safety of others.
  • Ability to be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others (children and adults).
  • Ability to relate well with children.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Attendance daily is extremely important!!!

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able sit for several hours
  • Must be able to stand, walk, talk, hear, stoop, stretch, and bend and to use hands to operate objects and reach with hands and arms.
  • Be able to work in an environment that includes constant noise, travel, and working with others.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Food Handler’s Permit
  • USDA Food Program training updates upon hire and yearly thereafter.
  • Must be able to pass background check
  • Must take UA prior to employment
  • Must abide the LEKT Personnel Policies and Procedures.
  • Must abide by the LEKT Drug Policy
  • Must have valid Washington driver license

HOURS: Up to 20 hours a week beginning January 20, 2014 through June 19, 2015 M W Th 1-5:30pm, Tues 12:30-5:30,Fri 9-10:30 am No program Winter or Spring Breaks

SALARY: Step A – $10.26 per hour
