About the Organization Founded as a preschool in 1953, the Children's Guild has transformed into a national leader, recognized for creating innovative educational, child welfare and behavioral health models that produce positive outcomes for children, youth, and families. Today, the Children's Guild is among the most experienced child serving organizations in the Greater Baltimore/Washington region. Each year, the agency's continuum of care and its 300+ professional staff help thousands of youth and their families achieve resiliency, dignity, and self-sufficiency. We operate therapeutic group homes, a treatment foster care program, and family help center located in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County and Prince George County. We also service students in our nonpublic special education programs in Baltimore City and Prince George's County. The Children's Guild also operates public charter schools located in Anne Arundel and Baltimore City and will open our first DC charter school in September, 2015. Elementary School Teacher (Grades K-5)


The Children’s Guild Public Charter School will open its doors in August of 2015 in Washington DC.  Our school focuses on the unique needs of children ages K-8. We offer a personalized learning environment that blends the Children’s Guild Tranzed philosophy of developing caring, committed and contributing young people for our community. The culture of our school is reinforced throughout our school goals, curriculum, environment and systems.  At the heart is our student centered approach to teaching and learning where our principles are guided by the way we Think, Act, Care and Reflect.  We are seeking dynamic, high energy teacher candidates who will continue our tradition of excellence. We believe that teachers are the single most important factor for students demonstrating high achievement. Job Summary and Functions:

Teachers will provide instruction for students in a K-8 setting along with providing related educational services.  Responsibilities include:

·         Developing age and content appropriate lessons aligned to the Common Core State

·         Collaborating with other team members and administration

·         Attending professional develop and staff meetings

·         Following the school mission and instill the beliefs in our students

·         Helping students gain critical, creative and problem solving skills

·         Understanding and use a variety of data and data sources for planning

·         Fair and accurate grade reporting

·         Managing classroom culture and student behavior

·         Utilizing data analysis and data driven decision making protocols for lesson planning and delivery as for student support

·         Supporting and participate in school wide activities

·         Ensuring classroom is attractive, safe, and conducive for learning

·         Effectively communicating with parents and caregivers

·         Commitment to Responsive Classroom philosophies and creating culturally competent community of learners

·         Commitment to principles of blended learning, inquiry based learning and project based learning

·         Maintaining positive rapport with students and members of the school community





Position Requirements

The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from an accredited college or institution; have appropriate licensures and 2-4 years’ experience or training or an equivalent combination of education/experience.  Interested candidates must have a DC Teaching Certificate or be eligible to apply for one.  As a founding member of our new public charter school, candidates must have a passion for developing an innovative urban school community, working with at risk youth and be willing to make the time commitment to opening a new school.
