Description

OVERVIEW:  Counsels with patients who are abusing, or addicted to alcohol and/or other drugs and work with their families.  Applicants are expected to subscribe to the philosophy of total abstinence for recovering alcoholics/addicts unless medication is prescribed by a licensed physician and being taken as prescribed

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB:

  • Provide screening and evaluation of individuals and refer them as needed to treatment and service programs as are available in the Program and the community

  • Provide individual and group counseling for persons in the process of discovering and dealing with alcohol/drug related problems, and for persons released from inpatient centers who need aftercare services.

  • Prepare DUI assessments, and deferred prosecution evaluations and treatment plans.

  • Lead discussions and present lectures and films for group sessions.

  • Maintain professional standards; follow the treatment policies of the Program and federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Follow-up on treatment plans designed for an undertaken by each patient.

  • Coordinate and cooperate with the staff of other agencies and organizations in order to expedite treatment for each patient.

  • Complete, on time, all required forms for each patient.

  • Maintain accurate and current records on each patient in accordance with the problem oriented record system of the Program.

  • Prepare current Patient Progress Reports and Completion Notices and provide them to the courts, probation departments, and referral sources as appropriate.

  • Regular staffing of patient’s problems for staff decision making process.

  • Attend training, workshops as needed to maintain CDP license and stay current with updated information.

  • Will become eligible to go into the jail to conduct evaluations within six months of starting.

  • Other duties as assigned relevant to job.

 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate of Arts or Associate of Applied Science Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Current Chemical Dependency Professional Certification with Washington State Department of Health
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to comply with department and Tribal policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work with personal computer
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow instructions and adhere to prescribed routines and practices.
  • Ability to effectively meet and communicate with the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and their families, and organize schedules and files
  • Knowledge of chemical dependency and its effects on individuals, families, and communities is important.

As with all positions of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe this position is Indian Preference in hiring, in accordance with PL 93-638.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • This person must be of the conviction that alcoholism and drug addictions are treatable illnesses and constitute a public health problem.
  • This person must sign an oath of permanent confidentiality covering all client-related information.
  • The person will have to pass a Criminal Background Check and have no history or evidence of alcohol or other drug misuse for a period of three years immediately prior to the date of employment at the Program, and no misuse of alcohol or other drugs while employed at this Program.
  • The Program Administrator shall sign and date the job description to affirm the validity of the information herein. The employee shall also sign and date the job description to signify compliance with the conditions of employment, minimum qualifications, and an understanding of the job responsibilities.
  • Must be able to comply with the LOWER ELWHA KLALLAM TRIBE policies and procedures, including the drug free workplace.

SALARY LEVEL: Level 12 (A( $16.36 Hourly)-F($20.74) for CDP DOQ
