This is your opportunity to join the dynamic Zoo Operations team at Woodland Park Zoo. Applications are now being accepted for Technical Facilities Manager in the Facilities department. There is one full-time, regular, benefited position to be filled at this time.
SUMMARY
This position oversees and manages work performed by zoo staff, consultants, and contractors involved in designing, fabricating, installing, improving, and maintaining zoo technical facilities. This includes repair and routine maintenance of technical facilities and infrastructure including but not limited to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, civil and related work areas. Work includes project planning, overseeing the preparation of construction documents, scheduling work of contractors and zoo staff, and coordinating and communicating schedules with other departments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise, lead, and otherwise direct overall needs analysis, project planning and design/specification development, including determining means and methods of production.

Coordinate and monitor projects and assigned work of staff during design and construction, and inspect construction to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.

Facilitate flow of information and communication about project and work schedules between zoo staff and other stakeholders.

Monitor and control expenditures and report on performance, schedule, and cost deviations; prepare project forecasts as needed, and provide appropriate information to Director of Exhibits and Facilities for financial statements.

Prepare and administer project and work schedules, administer budgets and coordinate budgets with Director of Exhibits and Facilities.

Manage and supervise in-house labor required for project work with appropriate supervisors.

Provides technical expertise and direction to solve technical operational problems

Develop and implement preventative maintenance plans

Make recommendations to management for prioritization and implementation of projects

Enforce safety procedures to insure safe operation of equipment and employee safety.

Plan, organize and evaluate facilities maintenance programs and operations for compliance to standards and regulations, and recommend modifications and improvements.

Prepare and maintain project status reports and documentation.

Receive, verify, code and authorize invoices.

Order materials and supplies.

Perform other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly and indirectly through subordinate supervisor supervises employees in the Facilities department. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge and abilities in HVAC, plumbing and electrical required; Journeyman level experience preferred

Five years previous supervisory experience in a related field

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor level degree in mechanical, electrical, civil or other related engineering discipline or equivalent; and four to ten years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of five years previous supervisory experience in the area of facility management, maintenance of buildings or electrical or mechanical systems or in physical plant engineering that includes the operation or maintenance of HVAC systems required.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES
Valid Washington State driver’s license required.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and data processing programs required. Knowledge of Word and Excel and/or Access preferred. Familiarity with AutoCAD desired.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
