Description

The National Network for Arab American Communities (NNAAC), a project of ACCESS, is a national consortium of independent Arab American community-based organizations from across the U.S.

Our mission is the development of Arab American community-based nonprofit organizations that understand, meet the needs, and represent the concerns of Arab Americans at a local level, while also collectively addressing those issues at a national level.

NNAAC is seeking an energetic, organized individual with writing, website maintenance, graphic design, and social media experience to serve as a Communications intern for the 2014 fall semester.

Summary Description:

The intern serves as an assistant to the NNAAC team to implement various nationally-based campaigns and public relations activities on behalf of the organization.

Primary functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Monitor media coverage
  • Create and maintain media and/or client databases
  • Proofread and format documents
  • Design basic graphics/flyers for digital and printed distribution as needed
  • Assist in maintaining the NNAAC website and social media by posting material, creating blog posts, and regularly updating information
  • Compose short, compelling articles for the website and electronic newsletters that help put a human face on the work we do at NNAAC
  • Create print pieces and other materials for presentations and other public relation purposes
  • Assist in planning and on site with special events (phone calls to vendors, staffing the registration table, creating name badges, passing out press kits, etc.)
 
Position Requirements

Intern candidates should have:

  • Strong writing ability
  • Knowledge of Microsoft computer applications and complimentary computer skills
  • Some graphic design skills
  • Experience with NationBuilder, or related website platform (such as WordPress)
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to follow directions and follow projects through to completion
  • Ability to work and communicate in a team environment
  • Ability to create short videos is beneficial, although not required
  • Passion/interest in advocacy work.

Reports to:

  • Advocacy & Civic Engagement Specialist

Education/Experience (preferred but not required):

  • Working toward a bachelor’s degree in related field (or equivalent).
  • Prior internship or experience in related field

This is an unpaid internship at NNAAC.
