Travel Requirements 0-10% for training and conferences

Description

The primary role of this position is to design, build, and implement trend and technology current solutions to improve member experience. Solutions built in this role may encompass multiple technology disciplines and tools. A candidate in this role will be able to take inputs from multiple sources and produce products that concisely solve the challenge presented. Candidates for this position are expected to have experience in implementing client/server solutions to produce interfaces between systems, and between the Credit Union’s data assets and its staff and membership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Software Development and Engineering (70%-85%)

Develop, document, administer, and maintain software for (90%):

  • Core interfaces to third party systems where said third party system lacks an existing interface.
  • Member facing interfaces via mobile, desktop, and/or tablet devices to give members new and innovative ways to access, analyze, and maintain their own products, accounts, and services with the Credit Union.
  • Creates web based or core system based extensions to Credit Union data assets to improve workflows or provide on the spot data analysis, or workflow simplification for staff.
  • Collaborate with vendors, team members, and Credit Union staff to improve tools and processes throughout the Credit Union.
  • Create new products and/or processes through keen observation of current products and processes to deliver new solutions. Focus in this area is not limited to projects in progress, but represents thinking in new directions to improve staff and member experience.
  • Participates in regular code review by presenting current and past projects for the improvement of the team, and the purpose of knowledge dissemination.

Develop, document, administer, and maintain software for (10%):

  • Assist staff with reporting on core data assets by providing core system expertise as needed.
  • Produce reports using applicable tools for the automation of regularly needed reports.
  • Assist Enterprise Applications with debugging assistance on batch jobs.
  • Assist the Database Administrator with debugging long running SQL code or batch jobs to optimize for efficiency.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Learning and Development (10%-20%)

Research, document, and maintain current knowledge for:

  • Maintain awareness of current industry standards, technology, and methods through common industry sources such as blogs, vendor knowledge bases, and industry news sources.
  • Annual or longer-term individualized training programs including position specific workshops, seminars, and certification
  • Regular review of individual progress plan with supervisor
  • Assistance to staff for diagnoses and resolution for areas of responsibility as defined by the department charter
  • Minimum required annual training includes: Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), security awareness, and core banking system forum. All efforts will be made to conduct training online or via conference call. The annual schedule is subject to additional or substitute training

 

Governance, Compliance, and Risk Management (5%-10%)

Research, document, and maintain analyses for:

  • Assist in department risk assessments and business impact analyses to identify vulnerable areas within the core processing systems and peripheral equipment.
  • Recommend disaster avoidance strategies and impact reduction strategies.
  • Confer with IT department and other key personnel to determine if changes in hardware or software configurations affect disaster recovery plan outcomes.
  • Recommends or maintains specific patches, security packs, and updates to tools and systems as identified in areas of responsibility located in the Development and Innovation department charter.
  • Uphold and enforce SFCU acceptable use policies.
  • Protect SFCU assets from theft, damage or loss.

Position Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Qualified candidate will have the following:

  • Candidate must have a demonstrated ability to write code. Tests will be administered through the hiring process to assess the current level of ability.
  • Demonstrated mastery of scripting languages such as Perl, PHP, Python is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability in compiled languages such as C, C++, Java, C#, desired but not expected.
  • Demonstrated mastery of DDL and DML in SQL using Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, and/or PostgreSQL required.
  • Other esoteric languages desired, but not required include: SQR, Windows Batch, Bourne Shell Scripting, or other Shell scripting languages.
  • Certifications or technical training; or two to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive experience with core software applications such as Open Solutions, DNA or similar platform used in the financial institution industry.
  • Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Solid project participation skills with understanding of Agile Methodologies such as SCRUM.
  • Knowledge of applicable practices and laws relating to data privacy and protection.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

The candidate will have a demonstrated ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. The candidate will have the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. An understanding of key banking concepts such as compound interest, dividends, returns, payments, and key ratios.

 

REASONING ABILITY

The ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists in order to create or explain new solutions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to deduce problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draws valid conclusions. The ability to interpret variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete concepts to arrive at proper conclusions for new solutions.

 

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES

Plan and perform diversified duties requiring an extensive knowledge of a particular field, and the use of a wide range of procedures. Involves the exercise of judgment in the analysis of facts or conditions regarding individual problems or transactions to determine what action should be taken, within the specifications of standard practice.

 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

In depth knowledge of internally used applications, systems, and standard network protocols to produce solutions that are or can be considered industry standards. Possess proactive initiative and deductive reasoning. The candidate must have the ability to work autonomously with favorable results.

  • Occasional weekend work may be required for large deployments to adhere to maintenance windows.
  • 40-hour workweek with no specific on-call duty required. However there should be an expectation of availability should the candidate’s expertise be needed to solve a critical production issue.

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, and mouse.
