Description

OVERVIEW: This position will assist and augment the efforts of collections specialist in all daily functions for the high emphasis is placed on coding, posting payments and adjustments into RPMS and all other billing modules that will result in completion and tracking of multiple and various types of billable claims to Medicare, Medicaid, State Industrial, and private insurers of all types to maximize on 3rd party reimbursement. This position will also assist in heavy, courteous phone contact with insurances and patients/clients as part of the collections process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

  • Assisting and training in performing accurate entry of all payments and denials from Insurance Companies and patient payments. Working with the billing department to process clean claims for less denials

  • Learn and develop an understanding of medical terminology

  • Medical accounting background preferred

  • Interacts with data entry specialist omitting on accuracy and quality control

  • Assist in developing financial and aging reports as needed and required

  • Paperwork completion as needed, such as delivery of documents, etc.

  • Daily communication with patients and staff regarding billing /collection issues

  • If needed provide explanations of insurance benefits and regulations to patients

  • Accurate posting of charges, payments and adjustments to each patients account and permanent office record

  • Maintain posting, adjustments, and editing of accounts receivable and aging balances

  • Compliance with confidentiality policies

  • Organize and maintain an efficient filing system

  • Monthly tracking of accounts receivables by printed report

  • Dedicate weekly time to analyze rejected claims, research and proceed with collections activities

  • Submit charge batches for coded individual visits

  • Post payments, adjustments and write-offs by insurance type that has a contractual relationship with LEKT

  • Do cross over and secondary billing to all possible second revenue sources

  • Other duties as assigned to support revenue recovery and support lead biller/collection specialist, may include A/P for clinic expenditures to submit to accounting department and/or assisting clinic employees with pre and post travel arrangements for continuing education or other travel as requested by the Tribe

  • If necessary due to absences and other unexpected events, for productive work flow this person should be able to perform basic coding and claims production for all types of billing entities for multi-specialties. Input claims into Provider One by direct data entry (DDE) and all others via tribal clinic electronic or paper.

 
Position Requirements
  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 2-3 years of work experience in a medical office environment with excellent customer service skills

  • Basic computer skills in word processing and spreadsheets

  • Accounting background

  • Ability to operate computers, faxes, telephones and photocopy machines

  • Ability to work as a team member with other office personnel

  • Ability to maintain and respect strict confidentiality

  • Ability to maintain friendly and courteous manner in all patient and staff encounters

  • Ability to read, understand and follow written and oral instruction

  • OTHER DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with RPMS or other billing programs

  • Experience with a Tribal clinic

  • Understanding of medical terminology

  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Requires standing, sitting, stooping and bending intermittently

  • Requires ability to lift up to 25 lbs. infrequently

  • Requires ability to see /understand colors, alpha and numerical characters, and have visual acuity

  • Requires ability to hear and understand verbal instructions

  • Requires use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, faxes, and photocopiers

  • WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is performed in a medical office environment

  • Involves interpersonal contact with staff, patients and agency

SALARY LEVEL: Level 11, Step A through C, $14.91 - $16.36, DOQ

As with all positions of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe this position is Indian Preference in hiring, in Accordance with P.L. 93-638.
