This is a new relationship-based sales role in which you will develop existing customers and build new contacts and accounts. Earnings opportunities abound in this newly created position in the San Diego area! Future opportunities will be available for you in Shipyard / Marine accounts in San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle.

Job Responsibilities

As a Marine Shipyard Business Development Account Manager you will grow your territory (and your earnings!) by bringing in new business and developing business relationships with your accounts. This will require that you call on engineers, maintenance, purchasing, and others and determine needs through a consultative approach. Roll up your sleeves and meet with people on-site at the dry docks. This position reports directly to our Regional Manager.

Your specific duties in this role include:

  • Achieving sales and profit goals by developing and retaining existing customers and by opening new business
  • Conducting sales and service activities, developing strong customer relationships, identifying product applications, and introducing new products and services
  • Preparing proposals, quotes, and orders; following up, negotiating terms, and closing transactions
  • Organizing and conducting training sessions for customers
  • Surveying market and competitive conditions
  • Monitoring customer complaints, following up on outstanding orders, managing emergency calls, night calls, and deliveries as required
Position Requirements

As Marine Shipyard Business Development Account Manager, you must be self-motivated and driven by a desire to exceed expectations. You should also have strong prioritization, planning, and time-management skills as well as a sense of urgency regarding customer follow-ups. It is also important that you display excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to establish rapport and build solid relationships at all levels of customer organizations.

Specific qualifications for the role include:

  • Minimum of 2 years business-to-business outside industrial / MRO experience
  • Minimum of 1 year proven sales experience working in the marine / shipyard industry, developing relationships & results with complex organizations
  • Knowledge of shipyard companies preferred
  • Project management skills
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to evaluate needs/create proposals for customers and prospects
  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record
  • High school diploma or GED. Associate degree, technical diploma, or Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Knowledge of pumps, hoses, fittings, bearings preferred
  • Experience in related industries, a plus
