GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:   Assist the Director and other senior staff and volunteers in carrying out development programs of the national setting of the United Church of Christ by coordinating the work of the Office of Philanthropy and Stewardship, establishing cohesiveness across key development areas, and serving as primary manager for donor relationships and donor stewardship. 


  • Design and implement an annual integrated donor relations plan that includes acknowledgment processes, donor recognition events, gift reporting for all donor constituencies.
  • Establish and manage information tracking processes regarding acknowledgement, recognition, and on-going communications.
  • Support cultivation of past and current major donors to enhance their relationship with the UCC and increase the likelihood of continued contributions.
  • Coordinate stewardship, events, and fundraising functions with communications effort.
  • Develop UCC donor recognition strategies and recognition programs and vehicles.
  • Devise and use consistent, accurate, and appropriate information-sharing mechanisms for stewarding prospects and donors.
  • Proactively support the stewardship responsibilities of the development of staff by assisting them in establishing and coordinating individualized stewardship plans for donors to their program areas.
  • Work collaboratively with UCC staff to compose letters, compile appropriate invitation lists, engage featured program participants, create programs and provide program materials, prepare program scripts and participant remarks and create and/or obtain donor awards and recognitions.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of donor recognition and cultivation events.



Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • A college degree in a related field or equivalent experience, or a combination of academic study and experience.

  • Experience in the philosophy and practice of philanthropy in the non-profit sector and demonstrated ability to work in the area of donor recognition strategies.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and diverse personalities.

  • Commitment to and theological understanding of mission, stewardship and philanthropy.

  • Understanding of the polity and structures of the United Church of Christ.   

  • Desire and sensitivity to work in diverse racial, ethnic, cultural and religious settings with commitment to diversity in the workplace as well as in one’s understanding of mission.

  • Ability to maintain and properly handle confidential or sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially as well as independently.

  • Demonstrated written and oral English language skills.

  • Computer literate in word processing and database management.  Experience with Raiser’s Edge.

  • Limited travel within the United States.


  • Demonstrated ability in donor relationships, donor recognition strategies, and donor stewardship.

  • Demonstrated experience in office coordinator and office management functions.
