About the Organization Salem Community College is a public, two-year comprehensive associate degree granting institution located in southern New Jersey. Established by the Board of Chosen Freeholders in 1972, SCC is authorized to grant associate degrees (A.A., A.S., A.F.A. and A.A.S.) and certificates in over 40 liberal arts, business, practical nursing and technology programs of study. SCC is the only higher educational institution located in Salem County. SCC offers many of its noncredit career programs at its Salem Center which also houses the County's One-Stop Career Center. In addition, the College has three off-site instructional locations dedicated to specific programs.

Salem Community College is fully accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

Coordinates or installs, inspects, repairs and maintains the electrical, plumbing, mechanical and other related systems of the college.


Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates, or inspects, operates and maintains the heating, cooling and ventilation systems (including boiler and co-generation power systems)
  • Coordinates construction and other special projects to ensure timely completion within budget.
  • Assists in the daily campus operations work schedule and assigns tasks and follows up to ensure completion.
  • Monitors use of facilities and provides for appropriate maintenance and repairs.
  • Provides for set up and room usage for special events.
  • Conducts periodic inspections of facilities, notes needs and provides for remediation.
  • Provides daily supervision for members of campus operations staff; inspects work assignments to ensure proper completion.
  • Supervise plant maintenance work order system, snow removal, and casualty prevention program (pull box inspections and maintenance, sprinkler system and fire alarm system testing, etc.).
  • Coordinates and inspects major contract work on the electrical, plumbing, mechanical and other related systems.
  • Manages grounds care and maintenance.
  • Ensures compliance with requirements set forth by state and federal governments and other regulatory agencies pertaining to physical plant.
  • Advise Vice President of Collegiate Services on plant maintenance standards and procedures.
  • Prepares technical plans, specifications and cost estimates involving the maintenance, repair and/or renovation of facilities.
  • Initiate and maintain records of all productivity information, prepare pertinent reports and process daily paper work, as required.
  • Supervises, inspects and approves work of contractors as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements

Knowledge and Skills:


            Experience                              Five (5) years of directly related experience to include two

                                                            (2) years of supervisory experience is desired.


            Education                                Associate’s degree is desired; Bachelor’s degree preferred.


Interpersonal Skills                 Strong and effective interpersonal and communication skills.  Ability to meet and deal tactfully and courteously with fellow employees and vendor/contractors.


Technical Skills                      Working knowledge of current and emerging computer

hardware and software, including relevant ERP systems,                                                     BAS (Building Automated Software), and all Microsoft                                                      Office products.  Experience working in a power    

generation environment, HVAC and electrical systems.


Other Skills                             Capable of administering all campus operations functions in an efficient manner.  Demonstrated written and oral communications skills. Familiarity with purchase order procedures and scheduling staff and outside contractors.


Physical Requirements            The work requires moderate physical exertion such as long periods of standing, repetitively lifting lightweight objects with frequent bending or stooping, recurring lifting of moderately heavy items. Occasionally lifting of heavy objects (over 50lb). Job requires average agility and dexterity. 


Work Environment                 Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.  Exposure to outside weather conditions is to be expected.  Occasional exposure to objectionable conditions is expected.
