About the Organization Salem Community College is a public, two-year comprehensive associate degree granting institution located in southern New Jersey. Established by the Board of Chosen Freeholders in 1972, SCC is authorized to grant associate degrees (A.A., A.S., A.F.A. and A.A.S.) and certificates in over 40 liberal arts, business, practical nursing and technology programs of study. SCC is the only higher educational institution located in Salem County. SCC offers many of its noncredit career programs at its Salem Center which also houses the County's One-Stop Career Center. In addition, the College has three off-site instructional locations dedicated to specific programs.

Maintain student financial accounts and provide service to students, College and other authorities via phone, in person or web. 


Major Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Student Accounts Database Management – i.e. Global Assessments processing, Charge Code monitoring, validation of semester charges, close interaction with IT for issues and information, attend system user group meetings
  • Process student payment transactions via phone, web, in-person
  • Research and process student account appeals
  • Daily decision-making on processing and account issues
  • Prepare third party semester invoices, interacting with external agencies as necessary – i.e. chargeback billing, SCC Foundation invoice, School-to-Careers invoices, School Counts, One-Stop billing, etc.
  • Prepare deposits of payments on a daily basis
  • Reconcile deposit and payment transactions on a daily basis
  • Prepare and post manual book vouchers and charges
  • Calculate and export student refunds – PELL, TAG, SEOG, EOF, general refunds
  • Interact closely with Financial Aid and Student Affairs for accurate accounting of student balances
  • Calculate and process student payment plans
  • Respond to inquiries regarding account status from students, college and other authorities
  • Work to identify collection issues and coordinate collection efforts
  • Prepare periodic & special reports – i.e. Registration Activity Report, No-Pay Report, Accounts Receivable Report
  • Integrate information relating to other funding sources for student accounts (i.e. financial aid in various forms)
  • Maintain detailed student account office files by semester
  • Work with Collegiate Services to resolve accounting issues – i.e. Returned Checks, charge/credit posting issues
  • Partners with Student Affairs Division in all decision making and communications relating to semester bulletin information – i.e. payment dates, late night staffing, non-payment dates.
  • Assists and works with other staff members as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience                              Three (3) years experience with customer accounts or similar experience.  Preferable knowledge of college registration processes and regulations (i.e. FERPA and general financial aid processes)  


            Education                                Bachelor’s Degree (Required)


Interpersonal Skills

Technical Skills                       Working knowledge of current and emerging computer hardware and software, including relevant ERP systems and all Microsoft Office products. 


Other Skills

Physical Requirements            The work is mostly sedentary; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, driving an automobile, etc.  No special physical demands are required to perform the work.


Work EnvironmentRegular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.
