Review output of personnel, medical and health physics records for implications in estimating chemical exposures information. Prepare statements as to logical potential exposures of consequence to person’s health. Support information validation where information comes from other site system sources (for example MedGate). Review and validate SRS IH sample results. Contact other sources (typically similar DOE sites, NIOSH databases, or labor groups) to identify likely exposure scenarios for use at SRS where SRS data is lacking. Establish spreadsheets of work group profiles (duties, chemical agents in use, qualitative or quantitative exposure values or estimates) for future retrieval or reference. Perform Health, Safety and Medical program functions such as but not limited to programmatic assessments, evaluations and reviews as directed by management.
B.S. in Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or related physical or biological science, or special studies and training in these disciplines and 5-10 years related experience,
M.S. in Industrial Hygiene Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or related physical or biological science and 2-4 years related experience,
Ph.D. in Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or related physical or biological science and 0-2 years related experience.
Operational experience in occupational health or industrial hygiene, with experience in exposure monitoring and data analysis, including OSHA requirements and NIOSH sampling and analysis methods. Working understanding of industrial safety/hygiene/health physics gained from work at a DOE site considered a plus.
Conversant in exposure assessment strategy and determination of potential chemical exposures. Able to demonstrate ability to synthesize proposed exposure information from geographic, inventory, and task information contained in historical references and literature sources. Ability to identify and quantify potential chemical exposures, utilizing a variety of information resources to determine applicable limits and implement control schemes that focus on application of the hierarchy of controls logic (hazard elimination, engineered controls, administrative controls, plus). Conversant in hazards analysis and personal protective equipment to protect the workforce.
