What We Are Looking For:

NCU is currently seeking a dynamic individual to become part of our Center for Academic Excellence team as an Academic Coach / Tutor in the area of academic writing/critical reading strategies or statistics, including Excel and SPSS software.

Part-time virtual Academic Coaches are responsible for providing academic assistance to Northcentral students in a variety of forms, including synchronous and asynchronous coaching sessions, tutorials, and webinars. Coaches assist students to better understand course materials and develop skills and attitudes needed for program success. Coaches understand and implement the ASC coaching approach.

These online/remote positions are available in all US time zones.  Weekend availability is required.

 

 
Position Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrate understanding of the ASC coaching approach
  • Contribute to improving ASC coaching approach
  • Continually improve coaching skills
  • Provide synchronous one-to-one academic coaching
  • Provide asynchronous screencast or written coaching feedback
  • Assist students in becoming autonomous, self-critical learners
  • Assist students with writing, statistics, and other subject areas, as assigned
  • Provide post coaching session feedback to students
  • Maintain records of student contact
  • Develop tutorial courses in conjunction with other Academic Success Center teams, as required
  • Teach tutorial courses, as required
  • Participate in developing and delivering online workshops, resources, and other ancillary academic support services
  • Stay current with organizational, educational, and faculty development policies that affect the ASC
  • Support the mission of the ASC within Northcentral
  • Participates in required training, coaching, and other activities that promote high-quality coaching
  • Other duties as assigned by ASC Manager

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Skill in oral and written communication, establishing online rapport and maintaining a friendly, helpful, patient attitude and demeanor
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competence in the subject areas to be tutored
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to work in an online, asynchronous environment
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving skills
  • Skill in operating equipment, such as personal computer and phone system.
  • Ability to market the ASC to a variety of audiences with clarity and excitement.
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment with aggressive goals and a commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work well cross-functionally and to get things done in an effective, time-efficient manner.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE        

  • Master’s Degree from a regionally-accredited institution.
  • Previous university level tutoring or academic coaching experience required.
  • NTA or CRLA certification preferred.
  • Proficiency in technology in the delivery of education.
  • Experience with online appointment scheduler preferred
  • Excellent communication, problem solving, and computer technology skills.
  • Experience working in a college environment with a variety of age groups.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  The physical requirements for performing the essential functions of this position require the employee to be able to:

  • Sit, stand, kneel, walk and reach.
  • Be able to lift, push, pull and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Hear well enough to communicate with others.
  • Read a computer screen and written material.
  • Write, type and use phone system.
