Description

GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION: Responsible for the day-to-day oversight, implementation and execution of the organization’s social media strategy across all identified and emerging social media platforms, including but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine, LinkedIn and Pinterest.  Also serve as a member of the publishing team, providing copywriting and other communications support, as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Achieve high levels of social media communication and engagement through various social media platforms:
    • Create monthly editorial calendar for all platforms, including the coordination of graphics and other visual needs – working with the Multimedia Specialist and/or through online programs.
    • Create, cultivate and identify creative and engaging content across all social media platforms, successfully serving as a voice of the denomination and reaching identified content and engagement goals. 
    • Identify current events and trends that should be engaging on the various social media platforms, within the voice of the organization.
    • Research and review emerging social media platforms to determine platforms viable of active engagement.  Provide recommendations and appropriately implement new strategies within these emerging platforms.
       
  • Track engagement levels and overall performance within identified platforms to optimize content.
    • Utilize social media analytics software to report on progress of various campaigns, communications and news stories, and to assess and increase the overall engagement of these platforms.
    • Research and report on best practices and benchmark statistics within both the religious and secular spaces.
    • Provide recommendations based on analytics, benchmarks and best practices and appropriately implement and track these improvements.
       
  • Provide support to the Publishing Team, as needed, including but not limited to, copywriting and proofing.
     
  • Assist various internal stakeholders with the social media needs as they arise.

 

 

 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform successfully in this position.

 

  • A college degree in a related field or equivalent experience, or a combination of academic study and experience
  • Three years of experience in social media and online communications.
  • Advanced writing and communications skills, particularly in online environments.  Excellent telephone and interpersonal communication skills
  • Commitment to and theological understanding of mission in its broad range of concerns; ability to articulate and witness to one’s faith perspective
  • Understanding of the United Church of Christ, its beliefs, theology, and involvement in social justice issues.
  • Desire and sensitivity to work in diverse racial, ethnic, cultural and religious settings with commitment to pluralism in the workplace as well as in one’s understanding of mission
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially as well as independently
  • Ability to travel within the United States as necessary
