About the Organization Salem Community College is a public, two-year comprehensive associate degree granting institution located in southern New Jersey. Established by the Board of Chosen Freeholders in 1972, SCC is authorized to grant associate degrees (A.A., A.S., A.F.A. and A.A.S.) and certificates in over 40 liberal arts, business, practical nursing and technology programs of study. SCC is the only higher educational institution located in Salem County. SCC offers many of its noncredit career programs at its Salem Center which also houses the County's One-Stop Career Center. In addition, the College has three off-site instructional locations dedicated to specific programs.

Role:               Ensures effective and timely distribution of mail and supplies for SCC along with providing additional support.


Major Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for daily mail and package receiving and shipping.
  • Daily distribution and delivery of received items to requestors.
  • Delivery of office supplies to requestors.
  • Responsible for weekly campus wide check on copy paper, office supplies, ink cartridges, and other materials, and for restocking as needed.
  • Maintain inventory of various postage, office supplies, and college forms stocked in the Purchasing Department and mailroom.
  • Responsible for data gathering and maintaining a listing of the college inventory.
  • Transports mail to the Post Office at the end of each day if necessary.
  • Assists with purchase requisitions as needed.
  • Operates laminating and binding machines as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 
Position Requirements

Knowledge and Skills:


Experience                              Two years of related experience


Education                                Associates degree or equivalent work experience


Interpersonal Skills                 Communicate efficient and effectively with employees and outside vendors.


Technical Skills                       Working knowledge of current and emerging computer hardware and software, including Microsoft Office products. 


Other Skills                             Highly organized, with a proven ability to work as a productive member within the work team.  Ability to utilize a personal computer, with Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Word, and college-wide financial database system.  Ability to work without close supervision , be self-motivated and meet divisional objectives.  Strong written and verbal communication skills.  Must possess a valid driver’s license.


Physical Requirements            The work is mostly sedentary; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, driving an automobile, etc.  No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Must be capable of lifting 50-60 lbs.



Work Environment                 Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office. Must be able to work independently and with confidential information.
