What We Are Looking For:

NCU is currently seeking a dynamic individual to become part of our leadership team as an Assistant Dean for the School of Business and Technology Management (SBTM).

The Assistant Dean is responsible for assisting with the oversight of team members in the School of Business and Technology Management (SBTM). This position is responsible for measuring accountability, developing action plans, providing extensive daily feedback regarding operations, ensuring that guidance is standardized and meets Northcentral University quality expectations, communicating with internal stakeholders, and reporting status daily to the Dean. The Assistant Dean will also be responsible for answering student questions about various components of their program and overseeing the resolution of student complaints. This position requires intensive interaction with leadership within the school, other schools and teams, and many other internal stakeholders. Must be comfortable providing substantive, critical feedback to team members.

Position Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the supervision and direction of the daily activities of the SBTM team members (i.e., faculty, academic reviewers and/or other team members).
  • Assisting with the oversight of scheduling and prioritizing of work assignments, handling performance evaluations and training requirements.
  • Providing frequent, timely, critical communication and feedback regarding the SBTM operations as needed (e.g., program operations, protocol, policy, and procedures, curriculum development, training, etc.).
  • Developing and managing a quality assessment program and submitting prescribed, frequent longitudinal outcomes to the Dean.
  • Overseeing the development, maintenance, and teaching quality of specialization courses.
  • Supporting development, planning, reporting and evaluation of the SBTM activities, goals, and procedures.
  • Participating in development and planning related to the SBTM budget.
  • Working with the Dean to establish protocol for strategic planning and continuous improvement.
  • Communicating daily with the Dean regarding the SBTM operation, quality issues and other overarching management matters.
  • Assist with management of grade appeals, student concerns, academic integrity violations, and other as needed.
  • Develop and oversee the SBTM Program/Department Advisory Councils.
  • Oversee the SBTM Student Advisory Committee and Faculty Advisory Committee.
  • Providing clear, guidance to team members to support doctoral program progress and successful student completion.
  • Serving as a member of the SBTM Leadership Team.
  • Conducting special projects and other duties as assigned or required for the Dean. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Full-time and part-time team members and faculty within the respective school. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of academic and business workings of a higher education institution.
  • Knowledge of doctoral candidacy culture in an online environment.
  • Knowledge of doctoral student development principles.
  • Ability to apply essential principles of supervision and managerial activity, basic human resources operations, strategic and program planning, program and curriculum planning, development, and evaluation, technology implementation.
  • Ability to organize and direct work efforts and manage several competing priorities.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication, capability to receive and give direction.
  • Ability to communicate clearly to a variety of constituents in a diverse work environment.
  • Ability to make presentations and represent the SBTM in various media when called upon.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, word processing tools such as insert comments, track changes and compare documents.
  • Knowledge of APA format.
  • Skill in operating equipment, such as personal computer, fax, copier, phone system.
  • Ability to communicate online including e-mail, chat rooms, videoconferencing and other technology based on communication media.

 Education and Experience:

  • Terminal degree from accredited institution of higher learning, preferably in the applicable school (Business or Technology) required.
  • Significant research-based, scholarly, peer-reviewed journal article publications.
  • Demonstrated expertise in applicable field of expertise (Business or Technology).
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience with the online delivery of higher education and associated support systems.
  • Demonstrated teaching and service record in higher education.
  • Experience supervising professional faculty and staff including planning, organizing, directing and evaluating on a daily basis.
  • College level qualitative methods, quantitative methods, or statistics teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience with Accreditation Council for Business School and Programs (ACBSP) preferred.
  • Served on dissertation committees, preferably as the chair.
  • Higher education supervisory experience.
  • Experience with program evaluation and assessment.
  • Experience with curriculum development.
  • Experience with student engagement and retention.
