Position Requirements
  1. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. 
  2. Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years management experience in hospitality industry, retail, or operations management.
  3. Strong focus and demonstrated success with customer service and guest satisfaction.
  4. Successful history of selling products, services and/or experiences; and the attainment of targeted sales goals. Experience in all types of sales strategies including cold calling.
  5. History of successful special event planning and execution in a hotel, cultural attraction, or museum setting is a plus.
  6. History of dealing with tourism based organizations is a plus.
  7. Proven ability to work collaboratively with guests, clients, colleagues, visitors, and vendors.
  8. Understanding of mission based organizations and how they function.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Developing and executing a comprehensive unified growth strategy for maximizing revenue opportunities within COSI including such areas as museum rental and events, group sales, foodservice and retail operations, and other ancillary revenue streams, as appropriate.
  2.  Act as the “Face of COSI” in the tourism industry, bringing outside business to COSI via Event Facility Rentals, Tourism and Group Sales, and other non-traditional revenue-generating programs.
  3. Grow market revenue by identifying and developing new target clients while managing and growing existing relationships.
  4. Act as primary liaison in-house business partner (food, events, retail).
  5. Work to strategically strengthen relationships with group sales/event businesses and guests.
  6. Cultivate a culture of positive selling throughout the institution by working across divisions and departments to assist in the selection and training front-line sales team members.




Maximizing revenue potential by:


  1. Reviewing and evaluating traditional and non-traditional revenue-generating programs within COSI and determine feasibility of building upon current momentum. 
  2. Working with Manager of Group Sales and Tourism, and Events Sales Team to identify and develop new target clients while managing and growing existing relationships, and looking to cross promotional opportunities for all clients.
  3. In conjunction with the efforts of Events Sales Team and the Vice President of Operations & Experience, continually developing and increasing profitability of the COSI Events facility rental and events program for COSI.
  4. Overseeing the Tourism and Group Sales program.
  5. Overseeing, in collaboration with of the Vice President of Programs, the Birthday Party program.
  6. Coordinating with in house events/food service team, on the marketing initiatives for the COSI Events program.  This includes, but is not limited to developing new event products, marketing materials, and overseeing the annual marketing plan. 
  7. Developing and achieving planned sales, gross margin, and profit for financial areas within area of responsibility.  Creating annual budgets, forecasts, and sales reports; and provide monthly/quarterly/annual reports as needed.
  8. Overseeing COSI Events operation and continually monitoring progress toward established financial goals, and maintaining high quality, seamless event and group implementation to encourage repeat business.
  9. Maintaining key relationships with Event/Group Sales clients on behalf of COSI.
  10. Overseeing the hiring, training, performance evaluation, and professional development of the AV & Traveling Exhibit Supervisor, who is to maximize Audio Visual sales.  As part of the supervisor responsibility of this job, conduct performance evaluations in accordance with COSI procedures.
  11. Strategically working to deepen relationships with Event/Group Sales guests & businesses to further engage them in COSI’s mission.
  12. Assisting in the selection and training of front-line salespeople in the Call Center, Box Office, on “the floor”, & elsewhere to create a “culture of selling.”


Providing additional support to the institution by:


  1. Serving as internal creative and/or logistics consultant for COSI Team Members planning major COSI events and community events held at COSI. 
  2. Acting as the facility calendar manager to ensure yield management as well as balance between mission & revenue.
  3. Supporting general COSI operations through participation in meetings as appropriate.
  4. Serving as an example to other COSI Team Members and Volunteers in matters of appearance, attitude, and performance in a manner best serving COSI Team Members, Volunteers, and Guests.
  5. In accordance with COSI's Guest Services Strategy and as opportunities present themselves, providing excellence in Guest Services by assuring Guest safety, using courtesy to drive each Guest interaction, by delivering the COSI show, and by keeping operations efficient.
  6. Performing other duties as assigned.
