GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:

 

The Associate Director for Donor Communication & Engagement is responsible for developing and implementing an effective, comprehensive, donor engagement and annual giving program. Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy and Stewardship and partnering with ministry staff, this manager develops and implements annual fund strategies that identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward annual gifts from individuals and local congregations.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Develops and implements a strategic plan of action with objectives, timelines and evaluation plans for the Annual Fund program that includes identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of constituents. Particular attention will be paid to the acquisition of new donors.

 

  • Coordinates a robust system and schedule for high-tech and high-touch donor communications, including preparation of draft emails, letters, verbal talking points, relationship-building tools, and thank you messages and premiums. Oversees the design and production of printed resources and materials.

 

  • Creates and administers a program and activities to solicit gifts from individuals and congregations including personal solicitations, telemarketing, and mail programs for the Annual Fund.

 

  • Creates and maintains a robust web presence for the Office of Philanthropy and Stewardship. Writes copy for the Web and electronic communications and collaborates closely with others in the department and with PIC to ensure that engagement campaigns and electronic communications are seamless and consistent with the institutional plan.

 

  • Performs comprehensive analysis related to all aspects of the annual fund program. Uses statistics to evaluate current Annual Fund programs and to make recommendations for program changes.

 

  • Ensures open communication with Leadership Gift Officers regarding contact of potential donors.

 

  • Oversees computerized systems and records that provide proper documentation and tracking of annual fund operations. Oversees the acknowledgment and recognition of all annual fund gifts, including the annual report to donors.

 

  • Represents annual fund issues and promotes community awareness and support for the annual fund program.

 

  • Develops and implements a prospect and donor engagement system using electronic technologies that contributes to the cultivation and successful solicitation of individuals and congregations for financial support.

 

  • Coordinates work of the Office of Philanthropy and Stewardship communications activities with the Publishing, Identity and Communications Office. Oversees and or edits Office of Philanthropy and Stewardship documents including: fundraising proposals to individuals, fund-raising publications; cultivation, solicitation and acknowledgment letters.

 

  • Works under the direction of the Director of Philanthropy and Stewardship and with the Project Manager to successfully execute fundraising campaigns, including special mission and other congregational offerings, special events, and annual fund solicitations.

 

  • Participates in working groups to plan, coordinate and execute original communications products and publications related to special events and programs.

 

  • Serve as a resource to the Office of Philanthropy and Stewardship staff on cutting edge technologies (e.g., social media, web, etc.).
 

Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform successfully in this position.

 

  • A college degree in a related field or equivalent experience, or a combination of academic study and experience.

 

  • Experience in the philosophy and practice of philanthropy in non-profit sector and demonstrated ability to work in the area of leadership gifts.

 

  • Demonstrated competence in financial development preferably annual giving in a faith-based context.

 

  • Understanding of and demonstrated competence in electronic technologies.

 

  • Demonstrated management skills, including financial management, personnel administration and general business administration.

 

  • Broad knowledge of the United Church of Christ, its diverse theology, traditions, heritage polity and structure.

 

  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills, with ability to adapt style to suit different communications media and audiences.

 

  • Demonstrated leadership style and skills working with a richly diverse staff

 

  • Ability to lead and influence teams of colleagues at all levels of the organization.

 

  • Is a person of faith.

 

  • Desire and sensitivity to work in diverse racial, ethnic, cultural and religious settings with commitment to diversity in the workplace as well as in one’s understanding of mission.

 

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially as well as independently.

 

  • An entrepreneurial orientation.

 

  • Highly developed planning and execution skills.

 

  • Experienced level of computer skills: Microsoft Office social media, website design and authoring, and distance collaboration and learning platforms. Experience with Raiser’s Edge or other donor-tracking software is preferred.

 

  • Ability to travel within the United States as necessary.
