What We Are Looking For:

NCU is currently seeking a dynamic individual to become part of our Graduate School  team as an Academic Advisor!

This position serves as a support role for Doctoral Candidates beginning their dissertation course sequence, giving students a point of contact for general to specific advice related to the administrative aspects of the dissertation candidacy phase of their program. Graduate School Academic Advisors focus primarily on supporting the direction of the Chair and Graduate School leadership, advising students of related policies and expectations upon request, and maintaining hours of availability by phone and email, to ensure students have the administrative support necessary to complete the dissertation phase.

Specific dissertation related academic advice is not given by Graduate School Academic Advisors, however, encouragement and basic guidance for program completion

 
Position Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong understanding of doctoral candidacy culture and related expectations
  •  It is imperative that all Graduate School Academic Advisors are well versed in all NCU policies, including policy updates
  • Knowledge of operating systems utilized by team members of NCU, including, but not limited to Internet Explorer and MS Office products.
  • Remain solution-focused in all interactions with students and NCU team members, keeping in mind all NCU policies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Skill in operating equipment, such as computer, scanner, fax, copier and phone system
  • Strong time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Ability to facilitate online communication using email and/or other technology-based communication media, including but not limited to:  web chat, NCU internal message system(s), Skype, Spark, MS Outlook email
  • Ability to solve complex problems within framework of NCU policy
  • Ability to work well in teams, while contributing to positive and productive team atmosphere, working conditions, etc.
  • Ability to advocate for student without compromising integrity of University
  • Strong understanding of NCU mission, vision, values, goals and strategies
  • Strong ability to provide friendly student service on all calls and written correspondence regardless of message being delivered. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required in Business Administration, Education, Psychology, Student Services, Counseling or related field from a regionally accredited university.  Master's degree preferred.
  • One (1) year experience in academic advising is preferred, student services or training and development in a collegial setting
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Effective interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
