Program Description Bar-None provides both open and secure living units for court-ordered and non court-ordered juveniles experiencing mental health crisis and emotional behavior problems. It also provides adolescent with emergency and longer-term shelter care as well as a six week evaluation program.  
Position Status Full-time position includes comprehensive benefits including compensated time-off, medical, dental, vision, and a 403(b).
Rate of Pay is $11.25/hr

Residential Counselor

Bar None, a VOA-MN residential treatment center, located in Anoka, is seeking full-time Residential Counselors.  A Residential Counselor participates as a critical member of an interdisciplinary team of professionals and provides direct services to teens with psychiatric needs. As a trauma-informed care agency, counselors are responsible for working directly with clients to provide for their care, welfare, safety, and protection as they take their journey to undergo treatment in accordance with the mission’s philosophy and program goals. Residential Counselor’s implement appropriate treatment plans and goals that are suitable to the age and functionality of the individual as well as document a client’s progress throughout their stay.

This is an entry-level position that provides opportunities for professional development in the areas of applied behavior analysis, human services and working with children with mental health needs.   This position will include day and evening hours and will include weekends.

Position Requirements

For consideration you must have:

  • High School Diploma/GED; BA/BS in Social Service field is preferred  
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
  • Final candidates are required to submit to a criminal background check, motor vehicle record check, and a DHS study


Other Skills: 

  • Demonstrated maturity and sensitivity to cultural and individual differences in children and families served
  • Ability to handle job-related matters in a professional, diplomatic, and confidential manner
  • Understanding of crisis intervention techniques
  • Ability and judgment to work independently
